Follow Friday: The Thirteenth
The News
Some people consider this day to be unlucky, but crypto is having a really rough week. Even Bitcoin is well down. Smaller coins such as $HIVE get caught up in the storm even when they might have good things going on. This is part of why I think a long power down is good. It means we cannot react to every little twist of the markets and have to play the long game. My pensions adviser says I should not rush to withdraw money from investments just because the markets are down as sound investments are likely to recover when things bounce back and crypto is much the same. I think Hive is built on solid foundations and can weather this tsunami.
You can see the prices I monitor have taken a hit. Even HBD was down a fair bit, but recovered back to the peg. Those reaping the 20% on savings must be feeling smug. They could buy more $HIVE if they want to. Things may be bouncing back a little today. Meanwhile the Terra 'stablecoin' has really crashed and the blockchain may have been stopped for now. It seems HBD has decent protections to avoid that fate.
I see that it is now possible to create a @leofinance account using your Twitter or Facebook account. You will not even need to use the Hive keys initially. This seems a great way to lower the barrier to on-boarding.
Friday Follows
I have done #FollowFriday for years. It will be biased to what I like, but anyone is free to do their own version. I share some of the post rewards with those I mention.
- My friend @todayslight is trying to give up smoking, so any friendly words will be welcome. He has his demons and has posted about them. I got him on here and help out where I can.
- I just saw that @jaybird is posting his music. I met him at St--mfest when he and his mate were singing songs about the blockchain.
- I have mentioned the comics I enjoy on Hive many times and will happily give a shout out again to @sidekickmatt, @northwestnomad, @katharsisdrill and @drwatson. @paolobeneforti also does some comics.
The Doghouse
I will not mention anyone specifically, but there are a few who bad-mouth Hive due to having had a bad experience. In some cases they definitely need to consider why they might have been down-voted initially. There are many unwritten rules on Hive that you may be considered to be breaking. Your rewards are at the whims of the community, so you may need to think about changing your ways rather than just ranting about how unfair it is and how the whales are Nazis, satanists, paedos (choose your preferred insult of the day). Most people with a big account have invested a lot of time and/or money in the platform and do not want to see it trashed. They will generally take action to protect it rather than to personally attack someone. You do not have to lick their boots, but good citizens who do not try to game the system have a much easier time of it. You are still free to have 'controversial' opinions. Do not be surprised if others disagree. I do not tend to downvote just because I do not share such opinions.
The End
I hope everyone is doing okay through these uncertain times of conflict in Ukraine as well as crypto carnage. I find hanging out with good people helps my mood.
I say again that more reviews of Hive on Sourceforge could do some good and you can give a thumbs up on Coingecko. Any other suggestions of simple actions to boost its profile are welcome.

Cheers, Steve. Splinterlands is helping, the addiction to buying and selling cards is helping to dull the need for a cigarette.

Thanks for the reference there! I hope that post can somehow become evergreen to help others along the way. I have been moving most of my HBD into savings, but yesterday I did take advantage of the $.60 difference and picked up some more Hive with it. I am going to hold it liquid for a while, but I will probably eventually power it up.
I can't really buy any right now, but I'm happy for those who can.
Thanks again for the shout out! I would love to see more comic artists land here in the Hive eco-community.
The black cat visited the cryptocurrency market, so it turned from bear market to black cat market. Haha.

Dear Steve, your "Follow Friday" posts are always a source of inspiration. Not just because thanks to them users can meet interesting hivers, but also because you share informations and useful tips. You wrote "I find hanging out with good people helps my mood." and it's so true. I think this one is the key to appreciate this community (and the real life too ^_^ ). Hugs from Italy.❤️
This is part of my giving something back to Hive so I hope I add some value. I hope things are all good for you both.
