Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a Japanese science fiction anime television series that aired in 1996.
On Imdb it has an 8.5 and Netflix knew why they put it on their platform.
Even though the series (26 episodes / 20 minutes) goes down in one weekend the combination of plot, violence and psychological maze that penetrates you in all the episodes needs another time.
My suggestion is 3-4 episodes a day with some gaps.

In the future 2015 (the series is from 96) fifteen years after the catastrophic Second Impact which according to official sources was caused by a meteor impacting the Earth. Half of the earth's population was wiped out during the Second Impact. As humanity recovers from this disaster, Tokyo-3 (the third reconstruction of the city of Tokyo) is attacked by massive entities called Angels. Conventional weapons are ineffective against Angels and the only known defense is Evangelions (EVAS). EVAS are huge humanoid robots whose construction and operation are controlled by the paramilitary organization NERV.

And this is where the robots stop. From the first episodes the series deals with the relationships of people who in a difficult situation have their inner thoughts, wants, motivations and most important of all... from a little melancholy to severe depression. ( The protagonist Shinji Ikari is a teenage child from a broken family and suffers from depression. The creator and director, Hideaki Anno, suffered from depression for some time. )

Although the series has a huge first level of violence, (EVAS anthropomorphic robot battles against the Angels), the psychological violence in the everyday of the characters' relationships is much greater. But the series in the end gives enough answers for dealing with fears and the coexistence of people.

With two endings (in the flow of episodes the 1st and with a movie the most complete and classic finale {The End of Evangelion}) and overall a direction that goes beyond the structure we are used to Neon Genesis Evangelion ends up being one of the most political, psychoanalytic and sensitive anime ever created for young and old.
Against the easy western cartoons we all loved. Beyond the epic, endless anime we've seen, EVAS can even 25 years later take us on a journey to the world, traditions and philosophy of Japan where everyone is looking to find the harmony between the individual and the whole.
