Of course this is a personal list, and I'm not presuming to edit or correct your selections. I would add one lesser-known filmmaker, and I'm sure you've seen some of his films: Paul Thomas Anderson

The most stunning movie (of his) that comes to mind is There Will Be Blood. Other memorable Anderson films: Boogie Nights, and The Master. He manages to attract topnotch talent and elicit extraordinary performances from them.

From this great list I've seen a few but I'm still missing and the director of my preference is Francis Ford Coppola, although you forgot to add Stanley Kubrick.
