Don’t look up

Don't look up, or better: Fuck it, we are all gonna die

Today's movie is a Wittgensteinian torture set in the age of post-truth, where words don't matter, reality is twisted and distorted at will.

It seems likely to me that the film started writing well before the corona, and was adapted along the way, since Meryl Streep plays a central role as a female Donald Trump, Jonah Hill (top) as an Ivanka Trump parody, and Mark Rylance as another Elon Musk.

I believe that the director of the Big Short started out with the intention of mocking Elon Musk's grandiose plans to move to Mars, at the same time that the planet remains a difficult place to live.

As I understand it, he is not criticizing the capitalist system, but the vain concentration of the strongest minds in projects that have no use for 99.9% of humanity and the inability of politicians to provide solutions and produce policy.

In addition to these, DiCaprio for me gives a recital in a role that helps us understand the roller-coaster that the scientific community has experienced during the pandemic. We observe how scientists became the stars of the era by coming from obscurity, only to realize that if they do not harmonize with the narrative at hand, they can easily be marginalized. We have recently seen in our country as well that the scientific competence of some is not enough, but also the political alignment.

The fast-paced documentary style featuring many celebrities (e.g. Ariana Grande) that has been described by various boomers as cheesy as anti-festival reminded me of the hilarious Death to 2021, also playing on netflix (check it out). Let's take care of this generation gap guys, people will be lost in between.

Personally, I found the film to be brilliant, it moved me, it shook me, it made me want to send many friends a message to see it immediately, and within 2 hours it helped me connect with my own people to the very essence of what we live and not as usual carried away by the media's current affairs.

I saved my personal favorite moment for last, when Salame kisses Lawrence as she explains how corrupt the system is and everything she's faced in trying to explain the scientific truth about the comet. She stops him, finds his movement irrelevant to the criticality of the moment.

Immediately after, however, she mounts him and starts kissing him, saying a phrase that summarizes the -probably- most basic meaning of the film, and why not of the entire era: Fuck it, we are all gonna die.
