"Go for the Gold" - Investing on "Dhanteras" [Welcoming Diwali]
"Gold and Silver are money.... Everything is Credit." - J.P. Morgan
Buying a gold jewellery is not considered to an investment in gold. As the jewellery becomes a consumable item. The right way to invest in gold is to buy Coins, bars, etc. However, for many Indians, buying a gold is like their investment. They use it until they want to and when needed sell them in store or exchange them for another jewellery item.
Today is Dhanteras, Indians who are looking to invest in Gold eagerly waits for this day. Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha, and mark the arrival of Diwali, the festival of Lights. You will find many Indians buying Gold jewellery, Silver coins, ornament, bronze or copper utensils and etc they believe that these will bring them prosperity and good health.
Dhanteras is the auspicious occasion, when Goddess Laxmi is worshipped at many homes with Gold, business assets, properties and other wealth. Goddess Lakshmi is considered to be the idol of Wealth, Money, Fortune, Power, Beauty, Fertility and Prosperity.
There were many mythological stories associated that make the day too auspicious, and people believed it is one of the most auspicious days for shopping metal. Many families believe that buying gold on *dhanteras brings happiness, good lcuk and fortune. The craze for this day is such that, the market will remain open till late night and you will find crowd and rush of people doing shopping for their favourite item. I am not different too. A tradition that has been going on since long needed to be continued. To avoid the market rush, I went out early looking for a gold ring.
(sample that I found over the internet. I took along it for my reference)
I am not fond of fancy, or designer items, I was looking for a simple light weight ring call Challa to fit in one of my finger. There was not an obvious choice for gold shopping. It was just to make up for my lost ring. I alwsys find that finger very empty, being habitual of wearing a ring since many years. So what else could be a good auspicious day then Dhanteras
The local shop already opened up early in the day preparing for the rush. First thing they did was to take my finger size using their tool.
It was a stainless steel rings of different sizes to check the finger size of the customer. They will show the size of the item as per it. The shopkeeper went inside to bring the gold items. It is quite risky to display pure gold item in shops especially in small towns. They usually display few Silver ornaments and dummy gold jewellery samples. While he was bringing up I looked around to find my Silver items kept in glass top cover.
They have few gems stone and necklaces. Not sure how authentic they these are but looks very attractive.
To fulfill all the customer needs, the shops has everything gold jewellery like gold rings, gold earrings, gold necklaces or pendants, bracelets, etc. They are all pumped up to meed all kind of people demand.
The shopkeeper showed mofvery limited variety of ringsfancy.I didn’t find the one of my choices. Some of them had designs, some of them were too fancy.
As said before, gold purchase are for consumption as well as an investment. I wanted my both purpose to be solved. The shopkeeper insisted me to buy one of their choices. But these metal items are not something that people buy everyday. Unless and untill, there are specific ocassion like for gifting, marriages or festival like Dhanteras. So the item that we purchad must be of our choice. Means our own satisfaction.
In my case, it was not meeting in any way. I didn't likes any of the items shown to me. Finally I showed them my sample images that I took along in my mobile and they agree to make it by tomorrow. I insisted them to deliver it by evening, for which they get agree. Hope they keep their promise. I will update the post, later in the day with what I got from. I already made some advance payment. On returning home, luckily,I found this on internet:
the auspicious timing to buy gold on the day of dhanteras 2023 is between 2:35 pm to 6:40 am on 10 November 2023
"So whatever happens is for good". it was not the auspicious time. the time begins in evening. But this has been a good experience shopping for gold #jewellery of my own.
Peace!!
