After twenty years of adventures and research, my fishing dream has come true. Which I have indelibly tattooed on my skin. [ENG-ITA]

Dear Hive friends, today I want to share a special day, when finally after almost twenty years of research and adventures I was able to catch my first Koi Carp. In the Orient, where they come from, these extremely long-lived carp are quite common to see, they can live well over 200 years, in fact they grow very slowly throughout their life. But they are mostly present on private lakes, because in nature specimens of interesting size are rare even there. But in Europe, more precisely in Italy, my country, they are even rarer.

In my life I have fished in different situations and locations, from large lakes, imposing rivers and small hidden paradises, I have caught many specimens of freshwater fish, more than 50 different species, including predators such as big pike and catfish , but also sturgeons, amur and carp, catching fish weighing even over 30 kg. But among all these numerous catches, she was always missing, my secret dream, the majestic and magical Koi Carp.

Such a magnificent fish, with those unique colors in the world, that each specimen looks like a work of art, with their extreme longevity of well over 200 years, can only be a magical creature. Wonderful, to be admired, respected and preserved.

Cari amici di Hive, oggi voglio condividere un giorno speciale, quando finalmente dopo quasi vent'anni di ricerca e avventure sono riuscito a catturare la mia prima Carpa Koi. In Oriente, il loro luogo d'origine, queste carpe dall'estrema longevità sono abbastanza comuni da vedere, possono vivere ben oltre 200 anni, infatti crescono molto lentamente durante tutto l'arco della loro vita. Ma sono presenti per lo più su laghetti privati, perchè in natura gli esemplari di taglia interessante sono rari anche li. Ma in Europa, più precisamente in Italia, il mio paese, sono ancora più rari.

Nella mia vita ho pescato in diverse situazioni e località, da grandi laghi, fiumi imponenti e piccoli paradisi nascosti, ho catturato moltissimi esemplari di pesci d'acqua dolce, più di 50 specie diverse, tra predatori come il grande luccio e il pesce gatto siluro, ma anche Storioni, amur e carpe, catturando pesci anche di oltre 30 Kg. Ma tra tutti queste numerosissime catture mancava sempre lei, il mio sogno nel cassetto, la maestosa e magica Carpa Koi.

Un pesce così magnifico, con quei colori unici al mondo, che ogni esemplare sembra un'opera d'arte, con la loro estrema longevità di ben oltre 200 anni, non può che essere una creatura magica. Meravigliosa, da ammirare, rispettare e preservare.

Twenty years of research and one fine day while I was fishing in a small stretch of wild water, as you can see, a lake immersed in the middle of a wood, which if you don't know it you will never get there, why not there is no particular indication, at least that was the case 5 years ago, now unfortunately it has been privatized and a little ruined.

In any case, at the time it was free and wild, I knew there were many carp, medium-small in size, I had already been many times, because I don't live very far from this lake and a friend had let me discover it many years before. I was there to test some carp baits that I had personally created by composing a spiced mix of flours, I used that lake to test the boilies, these baits that I created, because the wild and crafty fish of that place were perfect for understanding if the boiles worked.

Vent'anni di ricerca e un bel giorno mentre ero a pesca in un piccolo specchio d'acqua selvatico, come vedete, un lago immerso nel bel mezzo di un bosco, il quale se non lo si conosce non ci si arriva mai, perchè non vi è nessuna indicazione particolare, almeno così era 5 anni fa, ora purtroppo è stato privatizzato e rovinato.

In ogni caso all'epoca era libero e selvatico, sapevo che c'erano molte carpe, di taglia medio piccola, ero già stato molte volte, perchè non abito molto distante da questo lago e un amico me lo aveva fatto scoprire molti anni prima. Ero li per testare delle esche per carpe che avevo creato personalmente componendo un mix speziato di farine, usavo quel lago per testare le boiles, queste esche che creavo, perchè i pesci selvatici e furbi di quel luogo erano perfetti per capire se funzionavano.

We understand that a carp is wild, from the mouth, because those in private lake have fine lips, because they don't have to dig to find the food that is given to them by their owners or fishermen, while wild carp have very thick lips, which they have grown over time, using them to dig into the seabed, looking for food!

Infatti non avevo dovuto attendere molto prima di iniziare a catturare pesci, piccole carpe selvatica, ma davvero molto belle, con livree particolari e lucenti. Si capisce che una carpa è selvatica, dalla bocca, perchè quelle dei laghetti privati hanno le labbra fini, perchè non devono scavare per trovare il cibo che gli viene dato dai padroni o dai pescatori, mentre le carpe selvatiche hanno delle labbra molto spesse, che si sono ingrossate nel tempo, utilizzandole per scavare nel fondale, alla ricerca di cibo!

I don't have many photos of all the carp I caught as I was alone that day, but at one point, while I was fighting with a fish I had caught, I glimpsed it under the water and saw a fiery red reflection... At that point, after twenty years of waiting for that moment, my legs started shaking like never before, for the fear of losing that only chance that I had had in so many years of searching...

The fish was very pugnacious, maybe it was the first time in its life that it had been caught, it pulled and pulled and the clock ticked by, while my legs shook more and more. But the fish was still on the hook and getting closer a little at a time, until the fateful moment, where all the tension collapsed, the fish was finally in the landing net, and I had finally made it after all that time.

Non ho molte foto di tutte le carpe catturate perchè ero da solo quel giorno, ma ad un certo punto, mentre stavo combattendo con un pesce che avevo catturato, lo intravedo sott'acqua e scorgo un riflesso rosso fuoco... A quel punto, dopo vent'anni che aspettavo quel momento, le gambe iniziarono a tremare come mai prima, per la paura di perdere quell'unica possibilità che avevo avuto in con così tanti anni di ricerca...

Il pesce era molto combattivo, forse era la prima volta in tutta la sua vita che era stato catturato, tirava e tirava e il tempo scorreva, mentre le mie gambe tremavano sempre di più. Ma il pesce era ancora all'amo e si avvicinava un po' alla volta, fino al momento fatidico, dove tutta la tensione crollò, il pesce era finalmente nel guadino, c'è l'avevo fatta finalmente dopo tutto quel tempo.

I looked at him and admired him, I couldn't help but smile, I was so emotioned that I didn't understand if it was all true or I was dreaming. At that point I panicked, because being alone I didn't want to lose a wonderful photo together with this fiery red Koi Carp. So I called my mother right away. Luckily she was free and was able to come and help me take some nice souvenir photos. Obviously in the meantime the fish was kept in the water thanks to the weighing net, only a few seconds remained out of the water, the ones needed to take some pictures.

Lo guardavo e lo ammiravo, non riuscivo a non sorridere, ero talmente emozionato che non capivo se era tutto vero o stavo sognando. A quel punto mi sale il panico, perchè essendo da solo non volevo perdere una foto meravigliosa assieme a questa Carpa Koi rosso fuoco. Così ho chiamato subito mia madre. Che fortunatamente era libera ed è potuta venire ad aiutarmi per scattare qualche bella foto ricordo. Ovviamente nel frattempo il pesce è stato tenuto in acqua grazie alla rete di pesatura, fuori dall'acqua è rimasto solo pochi secondi, quelle necessari per scattare qualche foto.

I could not concentrate to take a good picture and stand still, I smiled and admired the red, black and orange shades that this beauty sported. Wow, even today, after 5 years, I get excited thinking about that moment, so magical, that it seemed unreal to me.

After taking some souvenir photos, I didn't even waste time weighing the fish, which in my eyes must have been around 8/9 kg. I didn't waste any more time and I released that splendid creature into its environment and continued the fishing day, with some other capture, but my thoughts remained focused on the goal that I had managed to hit after 20 years...

Non riuscivo a concentrarmi per fare una buona foto e stare fermo, sorridevo e ammiravo le sfumature rosse, nere e arancioni che questa meraviglia sfoggiava. Wow, ancora oggi, dopo 5 anni, mi emozioni pensando a quel momento, così magico, che mi sembrava irreale.

Scattate alcune foto ricordo, non ho neanche perso tempo per pesare il pesce, che a occhi sarà stato sui 8/9 Kg. Non ho perso ulteriore tempo e ho rilasciato nel suo ambiente quella splendida creatura e continuato la giornata di pesca, con qualche altra cattura, ma il mio pensiero rimaneva focalizzato all'obiettivo che ero riuscito a centrare dopo 20 anni...

As a kid, when I dreamed of this moment, I had said that if I ever caught a beautiful Koi Carp, I would get a tattoo of her image and so it was. A few months later, I took these photos that you can also see to a good tattoo artist, whom I thank for making that magical and unique moment of my life indelible on my skin, where I realized my dream as a fisherman. I didn't want him to copy the photo directly, but to create a small piece of art of abstracted nature, with the outlines unmarked, to create movement.

Da ragazzino, quando sognavo questo momento, avevo detto che se mai avessi catturato una splendida Carpa Koi, mi sarei tatuato la sua immagine e così fu. Alcuni mesi dopo, portai queste foto che vedete anche voi ad un bravo tatuatore, che ringrazio per aver reso indelebile sulla mia pelle quel momento magico e unico della mia vita, dove ho realizzato il mio sogno da pescatore. Non ho voluto che copiasse la foto direttamente, ma che creasse una piccol opera d'arte di natura estratta, con le delineazioni dei contorni non marcati, per creare un movimento.

Today, 5 years after that moment, my only Koi Carp caught in over 25 years of fishing remains, where I caught thousands of fish, which were subsequently always released free into their environment, because I love this sport, but I want to respect the nature and its life, also participating in the restocking of rivers and lakes.

I entered this place in @pinmapple on pinmapple.com, given the peculiarity of its fish that live there, if ever one day someone wants to go there and try to catch a fish like this wonderful Koi. Now the lake is not as wild as before, there are people who manage it, but you can fish and there are still Carper Koi, I know this for sure, because a friend caught another white one this summer. The lake is of natural origin, thanks to the resurgences that flow in the gravel canals, the water comes from the nearby Astico stream.

I will always remember that special day and today I wanted to share it with you, I hope you enjoyed the post. I hope that you too manage to make your dreams come true in your life, mine may seem strange to many people, but for me it was really a dream in the drawer, the crowning of a passion that has accompanied me throughout my life.

Oggi, dopo 5 anni da quel momento, rimane la mia unica Carpa Koi catturata in oltre 25 anni di pesca, dove ho catturato migliaia di pesci, che successivamente sono stati sempre rilasciati liberi nel loro ambiente, perchè amo questo sport, ma voglio rispettare la natura e la sua vita, partecipando anche a ripopolamenti dei fiumi e dei laghi.

Ho inserito questo luogo in @pinmapple su pinmapple.com, visto la particolarità suoi pesci che vi abitano, se mai qualcuno un giorno voglia andarci e provare a catturare un pesce come questa meravigliosa Koi. Ora il il lago non è più selvatico come prima, ci sono delle persone che lo gestiscono, ma si può pescare e ci sono ancora le Carper Koi, questo lo so per certo, perchè un amico ne ha pescata un'altra di bianca questa estate. Il laghetto è di origine naturale, grazie alle risorgive che scorrono nei canali di ghiaia, l'acqua proviene dal vicino Torrente Astico.

Ricorderò per sempre quel giorno speciale e oggi ho voluto condividerlo con voi, spero che il post vi sia piaciuto. Spero che anche voi nella vostra vita, riusciate a realizzare i vostri sogni, il mio può sembrare strano per molte persone, ma per me era davvero un sogno nel cassetto, l'incoronamento di una passione che mi ha accompagnato per tutta la vita.
