The Secret to Typing Faster: Achieving Flow State
Typing 100 words per minute can feel unrealistic or even impossible as a beginner, but somehow, when you go through the internet, you will find people going above 100 words per minute or even higher.
This used to be my case, and while I was very young, my goal had always remained at a speed of 120 WPM. I didn't know how possible it was, but right now, I am getting closer to this goal day by day, and I noticed that there is a possibility that I have already passed this goal without knowing it.
What do I mean here?
If you look at the image above, the dark graph is my previous typing record before this, which I did not screenshot. The typing speed I hit was 103 WPM in that session. I didn't screenshot it, as it was exactly my previous ATH typing speed.
But looking at that graph, there was a point when I typed as fast as 124 WPM, and my speed came down.
As I consistently played more games, I figured my speed kept reducing, and I was hitting less typing speed. Just like in this picture below:
I figured out the cheat code for typing faster and increasing my typing speed.
How did I figure this out? I noticed over time that when I hit a new ATH while typing, it happens when I am most calm and when I am not typing for the purpose of breaking my highest record.
The point here is that it happens at the moment of calmness, and at this point, I mostly have very high accuracy, meaning I make no errors.
Do you get the point now?
If you still don't get it, then here it is in simpler terms. You would type faster when you tried to be calm and put your mind less on speed but more on maintaining calmness within.
During that particular moment, you might not perceive an increase in your typing speed, and it would seem like you are exerting less effort when moving your fingers across the keyboard. In other words, your fingers would not appear to be bouncing off the keys as much.
This is because, at that moment, your conscious mind is not fully engaged with the typing process. Instead, your subconscious mind takes the lead and guides your actions, making it feel like your fingers are typing almost automatically, with your awareness focused on the words on the screen.
It is just like entering an avatar mode.
This is exactly what happens to me when I break every new ATH or come close to it. On a normal day, I don't always enter 100 words per minute, as most often my normal speed ranges from 70 WPM to 85 WPM.
What I am seeking to learn is how to maintain a state of calmness and activate that mode at will. I feel this ability is determined by different factors, and one of the most important factors is one's sitting position.
The comforting feeling in one's sitting position helps to project that state of calmness before we start talking about the hand's placement and the like.
If you can work on these few things, then you will find your speed getting faster. You just have to remember that you don't need to focus on speed; try to be calm and work more on accuracy and consistency.
Eiiii so how it is.you type faster when you are calm, who would have thought.
I think I need to take note of this actually.
Exactly brother. And it happens when I am most calm.
To achieve that calmness most times i prefer playing soft music and working as it would help me so much
You do this when typing?
Yeah I do
Hmmmm! It's really not about the speed; I find this quite interesting.
When calm really, we make fewer errors and it all counts with speed and typing accuracy. Calculating typing speed isn't just about running our fingers across the keyboard, it definitely involves typing the right words
Exactly the whole point here. It sounds like the slower you keep yourself, the faster you go. Just like when Flash runs and everything is slow around him 😅
Actually when we pressure ourselves on something, we end up not doing it well but when we free our minds it begins to flow naturally. Ever since I discovered that I give out the best when I am calm and my mind is relaxed, I stay away from both external and internal noises and it has been working perfectly well for me.
I am not a good typist though, but i believe thst anything is achievable if we give ourselves to it. so keep it up sir, keep practicing and stick to what works for you
I am still trying to meet up with this speed but seem tough for now, I believe it's a work in progress and kudos to you and aiming to that level..You can do more better.
I am still trying to keep up with typing master, I didn't even last up to an hour the last time I used it.
Typing fast can really be fun though.
