The Price of Ambition: Embrace Sacrifice to Achieve Your Dreams

(Edited)

If you don't sacrifice for what you want, what you want will become the sacrifice

Most people are not where they want to be because they have not learned to identify what they really want and what needs to be sacrificed to achieve what they want. I call this living dangerously, and this is because living life without a direction or a goal in mind is like accepting whatever life drops on the table for us regardless of how bad or uncomfortable it can be.

Hence, the importance of why we need to dream, to have a vision of where we want ourselves to be, to remove all distractions that do not align with those dreams and to surround ourselves with people who share the same or very similar dreams with us. This is crucial because the environment in which we find ourselves has a direct or indirect input to shaping our thoughts, actions, and even the execution of our dreams. So, be very aware of the people you surround yourselves in or the environment you find yourself in. There is something that I remember saying some months ago, and that is:

If you cannot change the people, change the people

I am sure you get what I am saying...

If you have then been able to identify what you want, it is necessary to also be able to identify what needs to be sacrificed. I will be listing out most of the common sacrifices you will need to make to take your life more seriously with your goals.

Although not everyone will accept this, the truth is, it has to be one of the first things you need to sacrifice, and that is family. I do not mean that you totally need to cut off your family but if you have a dream to pursue, then you need all the time on those dreams to leave only quality time for your family. This means your time spent with your family may not be in quantity but will be of quality. Make sure that when you are with them, you make the best moments with them before going on with your dreams.

The most valuable resource are those that are scarcely available

At this point, your presence and time with them will be very appreciated as compared to before, when you were always available.

In the pursuit of growth, becoming a better person and achieving your dreams, it is very important that you streamline the number of friends you have. Not everyone will wish you well, not everyone wants the same things as you want and not everyone will be there for you when you are down. So this is now when it is important to streamline your friends to those who align with your goals, to those who really care about you and are ready to contribute to your growth as an individual.

There is value in a smaller number of friends as there is in high number

Take celebrities for instance; they have a lot of people that know that and are friends with them. But how many of them genuinely care about them and are willingly to contribute to their lives? I mean, not those ones that are only after what they can get from them.

Before anyone will be able to support your dreams financially, you must be able to do that first, and this is why your finances will come as a sacrifice too. If you are not wealthy or do not come from a wealthy family that can afford anything you need, then it is important that you live a frugal life. Your expenditure will be tailored only to your needs and not mere wants.

You will not spend money on non-important things, as most times you will need money to finance your dreams and to give your dreams the push that they need.

One last thing to note is that you will often live your life based on people's expectations and opinions. What I mean is that you will stop being a people-pleaser. You cannot shape your dreams if you try to please people, as it is impossible to accomplish that. The people that complain about one thing today will complain about the same thing tomorrow; so just do you.

The people that will stay in your life will stay and the people that will not can leave. There is a saying I recently started to remind myself about and that is:

People come and people go

To get to where you want to be, you need to get used to having people come and leave your life and see it as a normal thing. We are all running a different race, and we are allowed to run ours.

If you read this far, thanks for reading. I hope you picked up some lessons from the reading. I would appreciate it if you could leave me a comment on your highlight and share to those who may find it useful. Thanks for the reblog in advance ❤️

This was a great read. I love how you explained that to achieve our dreams, we must give up certain things, like unnecessary friendships and spending money carelessly. It’s true that not everyone around us wants the best for us. This post is a good reminder to stay focused and make smart sacrifices.
