Reflecting on a Year of Learning and Transformation || A Year In Review
The year is drawing close to an end, and my thoughts browse through all the events I have passed through since December last year. Although there might not have been many significant changes in my life since then, I truly appreciate the little changes.
By this time last December, I was in my 3rd year; in fact, I just entered my 3rd year. I did not really think that in a year I would be in my finals. I have gone through my 3rd and 4th years in about a year and am presently waiting for school to resume before the final semester officially begins.
I can remember that last year, I was so focused on web development, learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and then learning cloud basics like Linux, bash scripting, AWS foundations, and cloud essentials. When school started, I had to put a pause on all that, and right now, I am more invested in Artificial Intelligence.
It all started when I was given a project that required me to implement machine learning, and to be able to build this, I had to pause my learning on DevOps. While spending so much time on machine learning and AI, I have fallen in love with the technology and hope to combine the love I have for cloud computing and my new profound love in ML into becoming a MlOps Engineer (Machine Learning and Operations).
I have been able to learn python programming this year. This was very easy to learn due to my background knowledge in the general concept of programming and for the fact that I had earlier known JavaScript and C language.
I found python programming very easy to use and quite simple. In fact, I have fallen in love with python and hoping to build more projects with it.
Talking about projects, I recently built a small project using Python, which is a pathfinder bot. The function of this bot is to provide a roadmap for tech careers. You just simply need to chat with it, almost similar to the way you communicate with ChatGPT.
Here is the link to try out the bot: https://replit.com/@epopoola15/PathFinder-Bot
Another major growth I appreciate this year is the fact that I started reading books this year. This helps me open my perspective on things and the way I see life. It caused a great shift in my paradigm and contributed to my personal growth.
I read more motivational self-help books because I think it would best serve as a great use of my time if at all I wanted to begin reading any books. I was not the person who liked reading as much, especially when it was not related to learning a tech tool, but this year I have become better.
I have read the following books:
- The Richest Man in Babylon
- Atomic Habits
- How to win friends and influence people
- The Alchemist
- Goals
- Eat the Frog
- How to earn a fee from what you do for free
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Still reading)
I had an initial goal to read 10 books this year, but I am glad that I came close to realising that goal of reading 8 books. Although I am still reading my eighth book, which I should have finished two months ago, I didn't really put time into reading the book, and I spent less time each day on the book as compared to others; if not, maybe I would be on my 10th book at the moment.

Brother. Reading through this, I was just smiling and feeling happy. You've been very keen on your growth and development as a person.
I remember those nights that you'd just be studying all through for all these AWS and all. I go just dey admire you.
You've done very well for yourself this year, man. Even with the books.
oh yeah, AWS and shell commands. ALX most especially gave me sleepless nights.
Thanks so much for your comment, brother. I would love to know how your book reading is going as well.
You've achieved a lot already this year bro and, you can still achieve more before the year run out.
Reading books expands the limitation, perspective, knowledge and insight of ones mind.
Yeah, I hope to do my best to achieve more before the year runs out.
This, is absolutely correct. and that is what I have been experiencing ever since.
Wow. These are some great achievements you have here sir. I've been looking to get some the books you highlighted here sir...
Is there a way I could get them from you if they are in E-copies?
I would really appreciate it.
I think you can buy some of these books on Jumia. They would have them deliver it to your doorstep. Only that you would pay more money because of delivery fees.
I've had some funny experience with those guys, but it's okay though
Omo you read a lot of books this year ooh
It is really amazing
I love that!
Now, as I am looking at it, I don't really count eight books as a lot.
It is ooh
Some of us can’t finish a book in a week
smiles, I can't finish a book in a week either. I just try to read about one book or two books a month depending how the quantity of the book. Do you read too?
I do but once in a while
I’m not a fan though
smiles.. I think you should try doing it often... You would get to like it over time.
I kept smiling reading your reviews this year. You are so dedicated and focused to have achieved these in a year. I only read 4 books this year and I think it's something good considering the fact that I never loved reading books until I decided to start this year. I hope next year would be more greater than this. Wish you the best in your final semester activities.
Wow I didn't know you were like me that do not really like reading books. 4 books is great! which of those books did you read? Let me guess one, How to win friends and influence people.
Yea, you got this. I read these too;
It's crazy how much we can achieve by just taking it one step at a time, happy for your growth bro, you inspire me.
Thank you very much! I heard you read books too, is that so?
Oh yes, yes i do, you have quite the collection there by the way, i think it's only 6 and 7 i haven't read, i might as well check both books out.
