A Day of Frustrations: How a Power Surge Turned My Day Upside Down

Yesterday was one of those annoying days for me, although it started quite differently. The plan was to go to school and work on my project with my project partners till the time our supervisor allows us to go back home and at the end of the day, get myself to rest and prepare to study today for my final paper on Friday.

First, the meeting at the school was just there, which was kind of futile. Nothing of progress really happened both on the drone and also the machine learning model. This was not even the frustrating side of it all. What really was frustrating was after when I got home from school.

Before leaving school, I was in a hurry to meet my supervisor in time so that he will not get to complain I took a lot of time before meeting up with him. Due to that process, I rushed out without putting off my appliances or changing the change over switch to neutral. This is something I usually do when I leave my place but I forgot to do that yesterday.

I got back home almost 6pm with a bad news that there was a high voltage in the house and the lot of appliances have gotten damaged at my neighbours place. Then it was that moment that I knew I f*cked up.

I rushed to my room, opened the door, and began smelling burnt offerings in the room. I had lost quite a few things to the incident and I was pissed about it because this was unplanned expense added to the list of pending budgets.

Luckily, the damage was not as much. On a normal day, I would have left home with my laptop adapter plugged in but I took it to school that day. This saved me from getting another adapter but I lost my router adapter to the blast. 3 of my extensions got burnt, my wall strip light got burnt, my table strip light got burnt.

My Curved TV (monitor) was plugged in as well and I do not know the miracle that happened that did not make it also get burned. I was really lucky for that; if not, my mood would have been even worse than it was.

Then, all of a sudden, my room light tripped off. It did not come on with the main power supply, nor did it come on with my solar power supply. Now I was worried and feeling frustrated. I was so angry that I did not realize that the only thing I had eaten that day was 4 pieces of donuts and nothing else.

I was in my room with no power supply, and not that there was no electricity. The whole building had electricity but my own apartment did not. I had to find an electrician that night and this time it was already 8:30 pm. He worked on troubleshooting the problem, and we spent over an hour on it. The electrician was a student and he also had exams to read for the next day, and I was surprised that he gave me the time. It took up to an hour before we could resolve the issue.

I was left with power supply, bad socket extension, and limited access to the internet since my router adapter was damaged, along with some other things I had in the house. I had to get a new extension and a new adapter that I could use while I asked a friend of mine to help me repair the ones that had been damaged.

I arrived back home at almost 11pm feeling extremely exhausted, with my room disorganized. I was too tired to arrange everything or to even find something to eat. I just jumped on my bed and slept off. I woke up and the energy of the previous day had not left my body. I woke up feeling exhausted with swollen eyes.

Now I just have to put myself together so I can read my 500 pages of notes in order to prepare for my exams tomorrow.

The way this power holding people will be playing with light self is not good. Sometimes, they are the cause of so many damages in our home.

Thank God the damage was not much. I hope you get your energy back and wishing you success in your exam
