Pseudo-Scylax, Strabo and Arrian record that the city of Side was established by Greek pioneers from Cyma in Eolida, a locale of western Anatolia. It in all probability occurred in the seventh century BC. His tutelary god was Athena, whose head decorated his coins.
The coin, which traces all the way back to the 10th century BC, had the head of Athena, the patroness of the city, with an engraving. His kin, a privateer swarm, immediately failed to remember their language and embraced the language of the locals.

With a decent harbor for little ships, the normal geology of Side made it one of the main spots in Pamphylia and one of the main exchange habitats the district. As indicated by Arrian, when the pilgrims from Kima came to Side, they couldn't grasp the vernacular. A little while later, the impact of this autochthonous language was perfect to the point that the novices failed to remember their local Greek and started to utilize the language of Side. Unearthings have uncovered a few engravings written in this language.

Engravings dating from the third and second hundreds of years BC stay undeciphered, yet affirm that the neighborhood language was still being used a few centuries after colonization. One more item found in the unearthings at Side, the foundation of a seventh century BC basalt segment that can be credited to the Neo-Hittites, gives additional proof of the site's initial history. The name Side might be of Anatolian beginning, yet in Greek it implies pomegranate (pomegranate).[source sought]
There is practically no data about Side under Lydian and Persian power.
