Splinterlands Card Review - Grandmaster Rathe
Splinterlands Card Review - Grandmaster Rathe
Hello everyone! Lester here! How's your recent battles? As of writing, only less than 3 days left before the end of season and less than a million packs left to unlock the next character - Grandmaster Rathe! For this post, let's review a legendary Summoner that will be from airdrop. Are you excited to receive this legendary summoner card? Let's check it out!
Card Details at Level 1
Edition: Chaos Legion
Rarity: Legendary
Element: Life
Role: Summoner
Abilities:
All friendly Monsters have +1 Armor.
All friendly monsters receive the Void Armor ability at the start of the battle.
All friendly monsters receive the Amplify ability at the start of the battle.
Lore: TBD
Abilities
Void Armor. Magic attacks hit this Monster's armor before its Health. For me, monsters with this ability work best with monster with Repair ability and under Weak Magic Ruleset. | |
Amplify. Increases Magic Reflect, Return Fire, and Thorns damage to all enemy monsters by 1 |
With the emergence of Grandmaster Rathe in the land of Splinterlands, Life element will have another way of going head to head with Magic Attack decks. Let's check these monsters from Life element that has Void, Silence and Void Armor abilities. Currently, only Clay Golem (Lvl 1) and Gargoya Scrapper (Lvl 3) have the Void ability from the Life element that reduces the damage from Magic Attack. These monsters are really helpful in Bronze League against Magic attack decks.
Life element also has some monsters that reduces the magic attack of all enemy monsters. But only Crystal Werewolf has it in lower leagues.
And lastly, we have Chain Spinner with its Void Armor starting at Level 1.
With Grandmaster Rathe, all friendly monsters will have the Void Armor ability at the start of the battle, which means that if your monsters have armor, magic attacks will need to go through that first. And if your monster has no armor, Grandmaster Rathe will provide +1 Armor to allied monsters. Currently, Legendary Summoners The Peakrider and Chanseus the Great provide and repair armor of friendly monster. But if the opponent uses magic attack monsters, these abilities are quite useless. So I think Grandmaster Rathe will be a huge game changer.
Line Up
For the position 1 monsters, use monsters with Magic Reflect ability. We have Pelacor Conjure at level 4, Blinding Reflector at level 5 and Silvershield Paladin at level 5 also. If the opponent uses magic attack the return damage will increase because the Amplify ability.
You may also want to still use Shieldbearer with Taunt, Shield and Return Fire abilities and a good amount of armor. And use monster cards with Repair ability like Armorsmith, Lone Boatman and Adelade Brightwing.
Alternatively, if your opponent has no magic attack monster, you may want to use Crystal Jaguar and Crystal Werewolf for their ability to maximize the affect of Amplify.
Do I like Grandmaster Rathe?
Ofcourse, yes! Especially in Bronze and Silver league. I will not worry much anymore if I encountered Alric Stormbringer, Valnamor, Obsidian or Delwyn Dragonscale that provides +1 magic damage to allied monsters. It feels like Weak Magic Ruleset is always in effect to the opponent's side. However, this Grandmaster Rathe costs 6 mana to summon and not usable in Little League ruleset or at a disadvantage in terms of mana count if the battle has low mana cap. Let's see how players will adopt to this new card. And what line-up is best to use against this one.

Well done, Grandmaster Rathe is very good against teams that use magic., thanks for sharing!
Sadly, I didn't get any from the airdrop. I would love to try this in ranked games. :)
