Introduction

Good day, Splinterlands! I'd like to tell you guys about one of my most recent battles with Magi Of Chaos. One of the few Level 1 cards without an ability is Magi Of Chaos. And at Level 5, this card's only ability will be Oppress. Since Magi Of Chaos is a Neutral Unit in the Chaos Legion Edition, it can be used in any conflict with other elements as long as the ruleset permits it.

Here is a quick rundown of Magi Of Chaos stats.

MAGI OF CHAOS
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: EPIC
Element: NEUTRAL
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: OPPRESS AT LEVEL 5

LORE
The Magi of the Chaosium are the heralds of the Legion itself. For hundreds of years they met and studied in secret, gathering ancient artifacts and scraps of forbidden knowledge, much that was once thought lost. As the convergence grew close they plied the void for its treasures and listened furtively to the voices in the dark to make way for the coming of the Lord of Chaos. Once the way was opened and doom poured from the sky they rose from their hidden places to claim the promise of power from their dark masters...

Battle Configuration

The mana cap for this fight in Modern Format is 50, and the rulesets are Holy Protection and Keep Your Distance. Earth, Death, and Dragon are the available elements. Since my Death element monsters have little HP and the majority of my Dragon element monsters are melee, I typically utilize them for mana caps of 20 or less. For this high mana cap duel, I used Earth element along with Magi Of Chaos because I had enough monsters in my Earth element to do so.

Rulesets
HOLY PROTECTION
All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.
Monsters that normally have this ability do not get it twice. The trick to win in this ruleset is to fill all 6 slots of your line up and use monsters with Blast and Double Strike.
Use a monster or summoner that has Resurrect to use this ruleset at its maximum potential.
Splintercards Holy Protection Ruleset
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE
Monsters with Melee attack may not be used in battles.
Keep no attack or higher HP monsters in the front. Keep higher speed Magic monsters with abilities like Flying, Dodge, Blind in the front.
Splintercards Keep Your Distance Ruleset
Line Up
Summoner: Obsidian
Ability: All Friendly Magic Attack Monsters have +1 Magic Attack

Because Obsidian has +1 Magic Attack in Modern Format, I believe it is the greatest summoner to employ with Magi Of Chaos. In this battle, Magi of Chaos had three magic attacks already, and since Obsidian boosted its magic attack, it will have four.
Position 1: Mycelic Slipspawn
Ability at Level 4: Taunt - All enemy Monsters target this Monster (if they are able to). Forcefield - This Monster takes only 1 damage from attacks with power 5+.

When using melee monsters is prohibited by the ruleset, Mycelic Slipspawn is my go-to tank. Along with having +1 Magic Attack thanks to Obsidian, it also boasts Level 4 Forcefield, which is particularly effective against powerful enemies.
Position 2: Centauri Mage
Ability at Level 1: Return Fire - When hit with a Ranged attack, Monsters with Return Fire will return reduced damage back to their attacker.

I used this card to combat the ranged attack monsters of my opponent. It also possesses a respectable 9 HP, which can withstand frontal damage, and it gains the bonus of Obsidian's +1 Magic Attack.
Position 3: Regal Peryton
Ability at Level 3: Flying - Has an increased chance of evading melee or ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.

This card's high speed of 6 and flying ability were the main reasons I chose to utilize it in this line-up. In the event that the enemy attacks fail, my lineup has a better chance of winning.
Position 4: Magi Of Chaos
Ability at Level 3: None

The +1 Magic Attack enhancement provided by Obsidian also helps Magi Of Chaos. At Level 3, it lacks an ability, but it makes up for it with its magic attack. At Level 3, it possesses 3 Magic Attack, 6 HP, and 2 Speed at a cost of 6 Mana. The magic attack's minimal mana cost is its greatest strength. It already possesses 2 Magic Damage at Level 1. To deal enormous damage to the enemy monsters, I added Magi Of Chaos to this lineup.
Position 5: Goblin Psychic
Ability at Level 4: Tank Heal - Restores a portion of the Monster in the first position’s health each round. Affliction - When a Monster with Affliction hits a target, it has a chance of applying Affliction on the target causing it to be unable to be healed.

In this lineup, the Goblin Psychic serves as both the support and a debuff against the enemy monsters' healing abilities. It gains from Obsidian's +1 Magic Attack, which makes it a damager as well.
Position 6: Djinn Biljka
Ability at Level 2: Camouflage - This Monster cannot be targeted for attacks unless it’s in the first position. Void - Reduced damage from Magic attacks.

Because it possesses two Magic Attacks and cannot be targeted by Snipe or Opportunity at Level 2, a Level 2 Djinn Biljka is a good addition to the Earth Magic lineup. And to utilize it in the fight, only 3 mana are required.

I set up this lineup when I discovered that one of the rulesets is Keep Your Distance. Therefore, I can only use creatures with ranged or magical attacks. I have the Life Element for ranged attacks, however it is one of the combat's Inactive elements. The only thing I can do at this point is use the Magic Attack creatures I have in my Earth elements. For this type of Ruleset, Obsidian is the ideal summoner. Despite the fact that in this ruleset monsters with Blast and Double Strike are the most effective, I favored magic assault since it can disregard the armor of adversary monsters. Magi of Chaos is a useful addition to my collection of Earth Magic cards. When enhanced by Obsidian, a Magi Of Chaos' magic attack increases to 4 and can do solid damage to the enemy. Let's check the battle if my strategy worked well.

Let's Battle!

I initially believed that I would lose this battle due to the enemy's Magic Reflect-equipped Failed Summoner. The adversary also possesses Mycelic Slipspawn, Goblin Psychic, and a Goblin Tower with the Blast ability. Blast will quickly remove the neighboring monster's Holy Protection. Each line-up concentrated its damage on both Mycelic Slipspawn at the beginning of the round. I'm in a better position because of the damage output. In the first round, the enemy Mycelic Slipspawn was completely destroyed thanks to a direct damage of 4 from Magi Of Chaos.

Despite the enemy's Failed Summoner, I believe my line up's damage output was too much for it in Round 2, and it was killed. Additionally, the Centauri Mage's Return Fire ability was activated against the hostile Goblin Tower, however it had little impact because to the tower's armor.

Timing is crucial when fighting. Despite Magi of Chaos having a tremendous 4 damage, Holy Protection has just neutralized it. If only another monster had attacked it first, that 4 Magic Attack would have undoubtedly dealt the opponent serious damage.

My Centauri Mage served as my tank after my Mycelic Slipspawn was defeated, and my Goblin Psychic provided healing. Magi Of Chaos kept up its tremendous devastation in the meanwhile.

Even though the opposition deployed magic attack monsters, my line-tremendous output of magic damage was enough to overwhelm them. I can say that I quickly defeated this foe without causing any harm to my other creatures.

Did my strategy work?

In this battle, my strategy performed admirably. Even though I don't have any monsters with the Blast or Double Strike abilities, my monsters, notably Magi Of Chaos, outclassed the opponent lineup with magic attacks. In this particular fight setup, the Magi Of Chaos was a wonderful fit and significantly increased damage output. This battle demonstrated that Magi Of Chaos's stats are above average, even without any abilities at Level 3. And because Magi of Chaos at Level 3 has no ability to begin with, this card will play very well in the Back to Basics ruleset where monsters lose all abilities.
