Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge: Explosive Weaponry!
Good day, everyone! Lester here! It's time again for another battle challenge from Splinterlands. This time, the battle challenge is Explosive Weaponry Ruleset. If you would also like to participate, please make sure to check their post here - BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! Aside from the battle itself, I will be also sharing some tips from Splinterlands itself on how to counter and use this ruleset. If this piques your interest, please continue reading this post.
Ruleset: Explosive Weaponry
Description: All units gain the Blast ability.
Blast Ability: Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target monster.
- Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.
- Include a unit with Reflection Shield in your lineup to absorb blast damage and protect your back line.

We now have a rough idea of how this ruleset will be used in battle. Unfortunately, I do not have any monster with Reflection Shield in my deck, but I somehow managed to still win the battle. Here are some tips from Splinterlands to give you more ideas or information that will be very useful in picking your monsters in this ruleset.
Notable Rulesets for Blast Ability
Top 3 Rulesets | Bottom 3 Rulesets |
---|---|
Holy Protection - Use blast to disable your opponent's divine shield. | Counterspell - Your blasting monster will take magic reflect damage from all monsters impacted by blast! |
Target practice - for maximum impact, monsters should snipe monsters located closer to the center of your opponent's back line. That way, you have 3 monsters taking damage instead of 2. Magic monsters may be nested closer to the center of your opponent's back line. | Fire & Regret - Your blasting monster will take return fire damage from all monsters impacted by blast! |
Unprotected - without armor, blast will go much further in defeating your opponent. | Spreading Fury - Blast can enrage your opponent's monsters -- adding +1 to speed and melee attack. |

Notable Abilities for Blast Ability
Top 3 Abilities | Bottom 3 Abilities |
---|---|
Scavenger - Allow your scavenger to increase their health stat while both your and your opponent's monsters fall to blast! | Reflection Shield - If your opponent plays a monster with Reflection Shield, they will not take damage from blast! |
True Strike - Do not waste a blast attack by ensuring it will hit! | Enrage - Blast can enrage your opponent's monsters - adding +1 to speed and melee attack. |
Snipe - Focus your attack on monsters not in the first position to maximize damage to adjacent monsters. | Return Fire - Your blasting monster will take return fire damage from all monsters impacted by blast! |

Battle Configuration
For this battle, aside from Explosive Weaponry, the other rulesets are "Rise of the Commons: Only Common and Rare Monsters may be used in battles." and "Silenced Summoners: Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.". The maximum amount of mana that can be used is 36 which is quite normal. Good thing that there was no Unprotected ruleset in this battle or/and Fire & Regret. Also, I have no monster with Reflection Shield but I have a monster that grants +2 Armor to allied monsters, Ravenhood Warden. Let's check my other monsters used in this battle.
Position/Role | Card | Description |
---|---|---|
Summoner | Thaddius Brood | Since we have the ruleset Silenced Summoners, I only used this card to summon Ravenhood Warden. Also, I have several common and rare monsters in Death element. |
Position 1 | Pelacor Deceiver | My monster here in the first position has high speed and high HP and hoping that it will attack or deal damage first before getting one. There is also a huge chance that it will evade melee and ranged attack. |
Position 2 | Disintegrator | My main purpose of using the card is to reduce the attack damage of melee monsters. Because of the reduced damage, I plan to also reduce the damage of Blast effect. |
Position 3 | Silent Sha-vi | Here is the only backline attacker of this line up and also has high speed. It will deal damage with Blast effect from the back of the line up. |
Position 4 | Ravenhood Warden | The purpose of using this card is because it can add +2 Armor to allied monsters. Having an additional armor in this kind of ruleset will give your monsters an edge over the enemy because the additional +2 armor will receive the Blast damage instead of directly hitting the HP. |
Position 5 | Venari Bonesmith | Here's another monster to add debuff on the enemy. Its Poison is very effective with Blast effect to add more damage to the enemy. |
Position 6 | Dhampir Stalker | Its True Strike is very important in this kind of ruleset to not waste any turn in benefiting from the Blast effect. |
The opponent used a neutral summoner Lux Vega but would not be able to use all its buffs. I noticed that the opponent has no monster ability to counter Blast.
By the end of Round 1, Pelacor Deceiver was defeated and Disintegrator left with 2 HP. If not for additional +2 Armor, Disintegrator would have defeated also in the same round.
By the end of Round 1, Pelacor Deceiver was defeated and Disintegrator left with 2 HP. If not for additional +2 Armor, Disintegrator would have defeated also in the same round.
By the end of Round 2, my monsters were also able to deal massive damage to the enemy especially Dhampir Stalker because its attack will not miss.
In the previous round, its a good thing that Silent Sha-vi has high speed stats and that made Sand Worm's attack missed. In the last round, if my Venari Bonesmith was defeated, I would have lost the battle. Here is the full replay in Splinterlands.
This was definitely a very successful battle. Even though I have no monster with Reflection Shield, the Protect Ability really worked well with Blast ruleset. The Armor provided by Ravenhood Warden really helped with the survival of my line up.
