Hello everyone, Lester here! It's time again for Splinterlands Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge! How's your recent rewards from Focus Chests? Good? Bad? Meh? While you're not sure yet on what is your next strategy, check out my entry to SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! FLYING SQUID.

Flying Squid

Let's take a run down first of this card's lore and stats.

Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: COMMON
Element: WATER
Attack: MELEE
Abilities: Lvl1: REACH, Lvl6: REACH, BLIND, Lvl10: REACH, BLIND, BACKFIRE

Although Flying Squid are not truly capable of flight, their moniker comes from their ability to launch themselves from the water and glide above the surface for long distances before resubmerging. These aggressive predators shoot ink into the eyes of their prey to blind them before attacking with their lengthy tentacles... (Flying Squid Lore)

Line Up

Here is the line-up I used in this battle challenge, which happened in the Modern Format. In this battle, the rulesets are Explosive Weaponry and Rise of the Commons. This allows me to use Flying Squid since it is a Common Monster. The mana cap is 27 and my Focus Element is Water. Since one of the rulesets is Explosive Weaponry, I chose Kelya Frendul as my summoner to give additional armor to my monsters. This will give enough room for my cards to deal massive damage to the enemy and since Kelya Frendul also offers +1 Speed, there is a greater chance that my side will attack first.

For this battle, my strategy is to take advantage of Kelya Frendul's +1 Speed and +1 Armor buff. Flying Squid has a decent speed of 3 and a huge amount of HP that can also serve as Tank.

Position 1: Serpent of Eld (Level 2)
My main tank in this battle is Serpent of Eld. It has a good amount of Speed and Armor and together with its Dodge Ability, I am hoping that none from the enemy's attack will hit it, thus the card in Position 2 will not take damage.

Position 2: Flying Squid (Level 3)
Flying Squid has the Reach ability starting at Level 1. Under normal circumstances, cards with Reach ability worked best when placed in Position 2. Aside from this ability, it has a decent amount of HP that can sustain incoming damage, leaving enough room for my other attacker to deal damage to the enemy. Also, looking at this Stats, this card is only a Common card which has an edge compared to other Common Cards.

Position 3: Deeplurker (Level 3)
I put Deeplurker in Position 3 to serve as my main back-line attacker. So while Serpent of Eld and Flying Squid are tanking the damage, this card will peacefully do its job, killing the weakest card on the enemy's side.

Position 4: Pelacor Bandit (Level 3) And for my last card, I used Pelacor Bandit to help Deeplurker defeat first the enemy's back-line attackers and support.
So while Serpent of Eld and Flying Squid are tanking the damage from the enemy and from the effect of Blast, Deeplurker and Pelacor Bandit will sneak at the back and will take every opportunity to defeat the enemy.

Did your strategy work?

Yes, my strategy worked and I won the battle. Its Reach ability helped a lot in dealing damage to the enemy, especially when one of the Rulesets is Explosive Weaponry. However, I think one of the downside of Flying Squid is its mana cost of 7. And for me, it is not ideal to use this card in low mana cap battles. But compared to other Common Cards with Reach ability, I think this one has a pretty decent stats. Also, looking at its stats at Level 10, its two other abilities are in sync with its Speed. With a nice amount of Speed and Blind Ability, if the enemy missed, it will receive damage from Backfire.

What will you try differently next time?

Given the same scenario and Ruleset, I think I will still play the same set of cards. Or I will try to use this a low-mana tank, like Cruel Sethropod, so that I can still use Flying Squid.

Here is another gameplay of Flying Squid using a different set of Rules and Mana Cap.
