RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

Theme:UNDER THE BRIDGE
Disc:Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
Year:1992.

After dedicating a few years to the most swelling and explosively rhythmic funk rock, the Red Hot Chili Peppers achieved their first big success in America with this half-time that reached number two in the charts in April '92. All the explosive energy of their most danceable songs seemed to have been absorbed by an aura of fragility and sadness, but the magic had not been lost yet, and this was demonstrated by the peculiar formula that gave the title to their most inspired album to date.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

“Blood Sugar Sex Magik”. In “Under The Bridge”, Anthony Kiedis, muscular and tattooed vocalist of the “Hot Chili Peppers” decided to take his personal demons for a walk and get rid of the ghosts of his drug addiction in the hard days of Angelina's survival (it seems that all the bands of the Californian city have gone through the same thing...). ) That feeling of painful guilt and discomfort from his drug habit and dependence is captured in the verses he sings with a simple delicacy, the same that John Frusciante prints on the guitar chords that accompany the voice in the first verse.

That atmosphere of purity is only broken with the final change of rhythm and its falsetto chorus. “Under the Bridge” eventually became one of the most representative songs of the 90's, and in a certain way it marked the path to be followed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who have gradually moved away from their rap-funk style towards melodies of pop melancholy until reaching the controversial moment they are currently in.

Perhaps that has taken its toll over time on “Under the Bridge”, a precious composition whose beauty had not been sullied until today, not even by the pathetic version with which the girl group All Saints destroyed the song in '97.

Thanks for reading me and see you in a new post with more of these deluxe editions and reports of the legendary songs of the rock bands we love the most.
