THE KNACK

Theme:MY SHARONA.
Disc:Get The Knack.
Year:1979.

Another clear result of the formula “catchy riff + consistent melody = mythical song”. “My Sharona” is one of those timeless rock classics, an unforgettable song that sounds fresh no matter how many years go by. The Knack's debut could not have been more splendid, thanks to this song, their first album, “Get The Knack”, certified sales of five million copies.

THE KNACK

They also managed to be number one in both the singles and album charts at the same time with song and album respectively, and that is no easy task. The important thing is that “My Sharona” was the best-selling single of 1979 in the USA and went down in posterity for its impressive neatness; one of those songs in which nothing is missing or missing, everything is perfect as it is.

The song was born, like so many others, from the attraction and desire for a woman on the part of guitarist Doug Fieger. Having a partner was not inconvenient for the musician to fantasize with his friend Sharona and write this song trying to woo her. In the end he got a date with the girl, although the song's success was more transcendent.

And this was one of those compositions that conquer and fall in love. However, Sharona did not seem to be so amused by the repercussion of the song that had captivated her in the beginning, and some time later she would end up saying that the song had turned her life into a real hell, since her whole existence revolved around being the girl who inspired the famous hit.

Without ever ceasing to be a tremendously popular song, it enjoyed for a moment a second youth when a remix of it was included in the soundtrack of the film of teenage love “Reality Bites” (1994) because the truth is that the riff sampled by the rappers Run-DMC (the same who made the famous version of “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith) for the chorus of “It's Tricky” went somewhat unnoticed.
