Legendary Rock Songs: LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER: BON JOVI.
Hello friends I hope you are doing great, today I bring you one of the editions of my magazine of one of my favorite rock bands which is none other than the incredible “BON JOVI” which is led by the singer “Jon Bon Jovi” which is one of the greatest rock vocalists of music and above all great composer. I hope you like this work of this legendary song.
Theme:LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER.
Disco:Slippery When Wet.
Year:1986.
Long gone are the days when Bon Jovi shaped songs of the caliber of “Livin' On A Prayer”, the second single from the album and second consecutive number one that together with “You Give Love A Bad Name” turned the band into superstars in the mid 80's and made “Slippery When Wet” have already shipped a whopping 12 million copies in the US alone becoming a classic hard rock album.
Undoubtedly the move worked out well for them, although in a way it stigmatized 80's rock. Their alliance with Desmond Child, that wizard of melody who put success on a platter to many groups of the time by giving pop hooks to their rock songs (from Kiss to Alice Cooper through Aerosmith), was a success, catapulting both singles to the top of the American charts.
Those were the days when hard rock and heavy metal reigned supreme, but the more melodic and accessible tendency of a group that, like Bon Jovi, based much of its visual appeal on the pretty face of its leader and his luxuriant hair provoked the creation of labels such as “pop metal” or “hair metal” that were aimed at mocking all those bands.
Bon Jovi were undoubtedly one of the great groups of their generation, and they should be thanked for their contribution in keeping rock as the most successful music of that decade. “Livin' On A Prayer” appeared as a single in October 1986, a month after the album. It was a real smash hit, with that stealthy beginning that exploded in a melodic ecstasy thanks to Jon Bon Jovi's privileged throat and the also excellent singing qualities of his partner and guitarist Richie Sambora, backing him up on backing vocals.
Sambora, apart from the start of the talk box, did not contribute any strident riff or a spectacular solo, since the song was based mainly on the rhythmic base and the keyboards providing the musical cushion for the frontman's voice. Undoubtedly, a real “stadium” anthem. The lyrics told the story of a couple, Tommy and Gira, who survived and fought against the adversities of everyday life by supporting each other in their love despite the economic difficulties. Years later, the band, in one of their most recent hits, “It's My Life”, referred to these characters again in a verse of the hit song, letting us know that they “never gave up”.
A nod to their past that sadly does not correspond to continue making songs as brilliant as this one, nor to carry with dignity the mega-star status that precisely the impact of “Livin' On A Prayer” gave them.
Thanks for reading my people and I hope you liked all this editorial work about bon jovi and his legendary song, which is one of the most listened in the world and has been used in many film productions. A thousand blessings.
