Legendary Rock Songs: GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS: MOTLEY CRUE.
Theme:GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS.
Disc:Girls, Girls, Girls.
Year:1987
One of the most festive songs of the 80's and the greatest example of what Motley Crue were and of the style that they spread through the streets of Los Angeles and that would mark the hard rock of the time. The “Kings of sleaze” lived by and for the “sex, drugs and rock n' roll” and so they demonstrated it from the beginning until they knew how to capture it to the perfection in this song whose explicit title already makes the things very clear.
With Vince Neil as a seductive sex symbol in the purest David Lee Roth style, and two born revelers like Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee in their ranks (Mick Mars always remained in the background hugging the bottle) the Crue were the perfect embodiment of that lifestyle, and few groups can match their history of anecdotes and scandals of the most diverse, as can be seen by reading their juicy autobiography, “The Dirt”, supia, dangerous games with death, alcohol, drugs, cars, speed and of course.... women and that addictive rock n' roll.
After they laid the first stone to build the angelic scene of Sunset with that badass cockiness, that backcombed hair, their grotesque looks with tights, grids and leather in between and that hard and metallic rock, dirty, direct and fun, the so-called “hair metal” bands began to come out from under the stones, and during the decade we enjoyed some unforgettable bands, Dokken, Ratt, Poison, Cinderella, Warrant, Guns And Roses themselves... but Motley Crue were always one step ahead.
That's how they seemed willing to make it look from the cover of their fourth album, “Girls, Girls, Girls”, riding their fast and noisy motorcycles and wearing black leather as a second skin. The videoclip of the title track was also a declaration of intentions, riding their vehicles through the streets of L.A., playing like unconscious children with their dangerous new toys, on their way to a strip club where they showed off their bad reputation as rowdies and even snuck into the dressing rooms.
The perfect narration of a night out with the band, the lyrics directly quoted city clubs such as the Dollhouse or the Tropicana while the images showed us scantily clad ladies and the unbridled chorus was played. For that reason, and because Tommy Lee whistled at the girls as he walked down the street with the attitude of a hungry macho man, the video was censored by MTV, who decided to broadcast a “lighter” version of it.
The song captured all the essence of a quartet that seemed to let itself be loved by the radio direction of their recently returned masters Aerosmith. “Girls, Girls, Girls” has the unmistakable seal of Sixx, the charismatic vocal timbre of Neil, a catchy riff in charge of Mars and a Tommy Lee giving cane in his line of always. Motley Crue in pure state overflowing with attitude.
My people thanks for reading me and I hope you like all this report about this incredible glam rock band, and about this song that is one of the most legendary. A thousand blessings and see you in a new post with more of these editorials.
