Usage Of Phones; It's Pros And Cons In Family Bonding

Every technological advancement has got it's merits and demerits but once the merits outweigh the demerits, it's still a win and most times, the demerits might not be from the technology itself but rather, the users are misusing it.

The invention of Phones remain one of the greatest scientific advancement but then, there are certain ways it will be used and you'll regret the day phones were brought it.
Humans are social beings and as such needs communicating with one another physically, phones were brought in just to alleviate the burden of communication breech that happens when a loved one is far away but then, how is it that family members are all together, let's say, a family dinner and everyone is pressing his or her phone even to the extent of pressing the phone more than the food he or she is eating, it really doesn't sound nice.

Personally, I dislike it a lot in a family gathering but I enjoy it while I'm alone... Sounds somehow right? Lol, but that's the truth.
When I'm alone, I can't just be eating and looking at the food, it's boring to me so I play a movie to keep myself company but then, when I get home and it's dinner time with my family, you can't see me with my phone.

I don't have a family of my own yet so I can't come and make rules for my parents , lol, but, I will really implement this rule in my family because of the benefits that comes with it....

Better bonding:

it will definitely help the family bond better because bonding is all about communication... The more you communicate with one another and share experience together, the better bonded you become and taking out phones during family gatherings will foster that.

Reduced distractions:

Banning phones during family gatherings will help minimise the distractions phones bring and make everyone concentrate fully on what's been discussed rather than the constant walking around.

However, because of the digitalisation of the world currently, I won't deny the fact that there are many challenges that will come with making that particular rules and I think they includes:

Emergencies:

Emergency situations aren't premeditated so no one knows when they will come and this is one of the challenges of banning phones during family gatherings.
It might be emergencies that have to deal with life and imagine how sad it will be that someone lost his or her life simply because you didn't pick your call as a result of the ban placed during family gatherings.

Practicality is difficult:

It might be easy to practice when your children are small, maybe they don't even have much that they do with phones anyway but as they grow older, it gets more difficult to implement.
What about when a relative visits and starts using his phone during meals because he wasn't aware of the ban and you wouldn't even want to tell him about it and your children watch him or her do it?

All these makes the practicality tougher to implement.

Declaring a ban on phones at family gatherings will really be nice but for it to be possible, you will also make some sacrifice by leading a model life.
As a parent, you shouldn't be seen pressing your own phones during those gatherings and by so doing, your children will learn by example rather than the rules you make.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Yeah, you're very correct, parents should first implement in themselves not to be using phones while having a nice time with the family, seeing that the kids can also learn cause it's what they see they learn.

That's very true and kids learn faster with what they see rather than the rules you make
Thanks for the support

There are pros and cons to talking about the use of cell phones. These devices help us communicate, but they also isolate us, which is somewhat ironic. I believe that if we all educate ourselves at home we will understand that it is more important to understand each other in the family environment than to keep up with rumors and friends on social networks.

which is somewhat ironic.

Honestly 😂😂😂
That's very true, time should be invested in understanding ourselves more than those rumours without bases out there

Funny enough, all we do with both is still communicating so why won't you stop one for a while and do the other after
We really need to do better

I mentioned this problem about kids, now it is easy when my kids are young, but I know that will be challenging in the future!

That's the truth and sadly enough, we don't even know what technological advancements have from us

I can't be eating without pressing my phone too, it would be odd for me. Lol
Meanwhile, for one to implement such a rule in the home, then, they must also practice it. They should model it too because that is what will make children inculcate such a habit and be more mindful of using their phones during family time.

That's the truth... Practicing it will go a long way inculcating the good values in them rather than just mandating them
