More Than A Call

Many people are of the opinion that love requires a physical meeting and see long distance relationship as what is peculiar to kids but is it always so?

Linda was one of such people who not only believed that love required a physical meeting but also believed in courtship, but as she would realise much to her surprise, "you never say never in life"

Running one of the biggest wig retail shop with a mammoth online presence meant that Gabriel didn't know most of his customers, it also meant that he had mostly female customers.
Just like many successful men of his age, he was used to females hitting on him. Indeed he was one of the most sought after bachelors, the famous "wig god".

He had an incling to assume the ladies were just after his money and so was skeptical of engaging them in anything serious.
Having founded the business of production, sales and distribution of wigs over 3 years ago, the company had flourished even beyond his imagination evidenced by the 80 employees under his establishment and in all these years, despite his large workforce, Gabriel insisted on being the one to take care of every unsatisfied customer who calls on the company line, he enjoyed the attention the ladies gave whenever he picked their calls, especially the young ones who hoped they would be lucky enough to have him to themselves.

It was during one of those calls that he first heard Linda's voice. It was not the most unique of voices, neither was it sensual, the voice was also not flirty unlike most of his callers.
As a matter of fact, she didn't know she would be speaking with a man when she called the company line. The way in which she repeated his name as if she was surprised the owner of "Wigs and Luxury" was a man intrigued him so much and her witty responses made him more interested in getting to know her.
He could guess from her voice that she was a beauty to behold and in her late 20's, he almost forgot he was on a business call but adjusted upon realising himself.

When Linda received her package earlier that morning, in addition to the wig she ordered, a deep moisturising conditioner and wig brush were placed inside the box which she ordered, ordinarily she felt it was a case of mistaken identity during delivery but seeing the exact same wig she ordered with the correct price she payed alongside her name on the package made her curious.

It was this curiosity that prompted her to call, only to discover that a man was the owner of the famous brand which had stood out in satisfying the ostentatious desires of the most classy girls.

The explanation that every order on the 1st day of every month merited a special token really made her feel special. It didn't matter that he said every customer received something, for her, a deep moisturising conditioner had long been on her wish list, but she never wanted to buy it herself.

At the end of the call, she was so pleased that she had to call back few hours later pretending to have made a mistake but secretly hoping he would be the one to take the call and when he did, she was noticeably pleased, even though she tried her best to conceal her joy.

Gabriel who had initially decided he would call her at the close of work with his private line decided to take the bull by the horn and proceed to flirt on the call, she was welcoming which he perceived as a green light. In the end, he promised to chat her on WhatsApp to which she didn't object.

Due to his busy schedule, they had to make do with call and chats as their relationship waxed stronger. Gabriel found himself disinterested in answering the company calls as no voice pleased him more than Linda's.

As Valentine's day gradually approached, he felt there was no better day for them to finally meet, it has afterall been 2 weeks of fairy tale romance within which they had talked about virtually everything but he longed to see her just as she longed to see him.

As the day drew closer for their scheduled meeting, it seemed as if time was paused. He couldn't wait to see her in person, he felt pictures didn't do justice to her beauty.

The day finally arrived and it was time to meet, he drove to the address she gave him and when he got there, he waited about 5 minutes before a tall pretty damsel, emerged from the building, wearing a gown he had hitherto believed was meant for the red carpet alone.

"Oh my!" He exclaimed, "you are not photogenic" to which she smiled wildly and truly, he hadn't seen a smile as beautiful as hers, though he resisted the urge to comment on it. He took her to the scheduled location where they ate little yet discussed beyond their expectations because they felt they had said all that was meant to be said on calls and chats, when they left the date, Gabriel was convinced he had met his wife and decided to propose without a ring, to his surprise, she accepted but insisted he must repeat the proposal properly to which he agreed.

It was a Valentine to remember for both man and wife (Gabriel and Linda)
