I know them: Best Teacher, Worst Teacher

avatar

Teaching is a noble profession that I respect anyone walking down the lane so much and I will still insist on what I said few weeks ago that, "Teaching Is The Mother Of All Professions".

Regardless of that, some persons aren't just qualified enough to take up this profession while some are perfect match for it (match made in heaven)

Having encountered many teachers to get to the academic stage I am now, there are indeed teachers I would never have loved to depart from and there are teachers I would have never loved to cross path with (oh! But if I didn't cross path with them, I wouldn't have had something to write on so I guess it's all good anyway, hehehe)

Factors that may affect our Grading

  • First Encounter:

Our first encounter with someone makes a great imprint as to how far we would relate with such person.
It says a lot about us.

  • Love for the subject:

We might not love the teacher at first for a particular subject but our love for a particular subject could make us gradually come to like the teacher since we enjoy what he or she teaches us

  • Personality:

Humans are Social beings.
A teacher might not be the best at discharging his or her duties very well but will be very good with the way he relates with his or her students which will make us grade them well also.

  • Good at his job:

Finally, we might give a teacher a nice grade when he doesn't even have a great personality but then is very good at discharging his duties. He makes sure that everyone understands what he is teaching before leaving the class.

My Mathematics and Further Mathematics Teacher

Oh! May God continue to bless Late Mr. Samuel Odo, a rare gem in the teaching profession.

I will be giving this my teacher a grade of 9.9/10 ( I am leaving the 0.1 to the popular saying that no one is perfect ) and these are my reasons;

Late Mr. Samuel was a teacher who was very passionate about his job and was very good at discharging them too.
He was my teacher in the said subjects when I was in my SSS2 class.

Mathematics not to talk of Further Mathematics are subjects that many dread not to meet and would comfortably run elsewhere provided he doesn't have to deal with these subjects but guess what?

Late Mr. Samuel made people join us rather than leaving

He made the said subjects easy and enjoyable that everybody could understand. He made use of as many examples as possible to drive his points home.

Whenever he comes back to class for the next topic, he will refresh our memory on the previous topic before going to the topic of the day.

He had the whole factors I listed above

He had his bad moments also but he handles them with love.
After flogging you for not submitting your assignment, he will say to you, "would you love your children not to do their assignments"? Or "Don't forget your dad paid for these assignments I gave you, would you prefer wasting his money rather than putting them to good use"?

These statements of his always has a way of making you feel miserable about not doing your assignments other than feeling bad for him flogging you which makes you struggle never to miss the deadline for submission again.

He was indeed a teacher made in heaven. I always greeted him passionately then and he will call my name (I did well in his subjects so he knew my name alongside the names of the best students in the subjects he taught), this gladdens my heart always.
Unfortunately death took him away from me even before I could say a proper thank you; May his soul forever rest in peace, Amen.

My Igbo Teacher

Oh! My world, I would have preferred to be a Yoruba guy if I knew I would cross path with this man.

"Maazi Okonko" (Master Okonko Anthony), a vibrant young man in his late twenties as at 2012/2013 that we met in my JSSS2 class is a man I would give 2/10 if I am to grade him.

I would be giving him that rating because yes! He may be shitty with discharging his duties, his personality and the rest but he never for once missed his class throughout my encounter with him.

My first encounter with him was an awful one (I guess that was where the hatred started, hahaha).

It was just few minutes past breaktime and still noisy in the classes as usual.... In one corner of the class was I sitted with my friends gisting about what I can't remember for now when this man sighted us from the window.
We weren't observant enough to see him until he stormed our the class.
We had no business with him for the day so I was wondering why he came and next thing I heard was, "1, 2,3,4,5 and 6! Come out and lie down", he was pointing at me and my friends 😩.
I wished for the earth to swallow me but it didn't, hehehe.

Story cut short, he dealt with us and left.... I hated and feared him ever since then.

Coming to his job, he wasn't the best for teaching or let's say teaching the subject he thought.

His Igbo speaking was not even fluent and didn't care if you didn't understand anything.
He was so busy with copying his notes and won't even talk to us sometimes before exiting the class.
He was very poor at this job actually.

Nevertheless, I still thank every teacher I've ever encountered in my life as they knowingly and unknowingly impacted in my life... They made me the man I am now and I am ever grateful.

That is why I will always keep praying that the Government recognise their efforts and give them a raise commensurable to their services.

God Bless Every Teacher Out There!

Thanks for reading through 👍

I'm going to steal your grading system to grade my favourite and most hated teachers, permit me 😂

So sorry about your maths teacher, why good people nor dey last for this world? 🥲 So did you get a new maths teacher? Was he pretty good?

Lol you would have preferred a yoruba guy? 😂 Wahala, I can already imagine how it was that day he punished you and your friends.

Regardless of all that, it takes a lot to be a teacher and I respect them for that.

This was well articulated, I enjoyed reading it and proud of you 🙂

Hahaha.... You needn't not to ask.... Granted already (Would actually be an honour)

It's one question I'll still ask God, I really don't know 🤦.
He actually died when I was already in the university during the Covid pandemic
I couldn't even pay my last respect too because he was buried when I was writing my 2nd professional exam🤦

Regardless of all that, it takes a lot to be a teacher and I respect them for that.

I surely do respect them a lot and wish them a better pay both here on earth and in heaven because teachers in Nigeria are not getting the attention they deserve

This was well articulated, I enjoyed reading it and proud of you 🙂

The pleasure is all mine.
Really glad to have you here read me and leave an inspiring comment.
Thanks a lot my great teacher 😊

he was buried when I was writing my 2nd professional exam

Oh dear 🥺 he would be so proud of how far you've come in your studies, so I'd say you have that in mind instead of the feeling of missing his burial ceremony.

Thanks for the permission and for writing a good content always! Doh 😅

The fear many people have for mathematics and further maths has made them developed hate for the teachers teaching this subjects. Back then, we are always like a particular teacher is too wicked.

One thing I notice about them is that they are disciplined and won't take shit so we are bitter about how they flog us.

My favorite teacher is dead as well, may their soul rest in peace.

Ouch... Death is cruel then I guess
Good people don't stay forever.

Yes! Growing up as children, we tend to misplace discipline and see it as wickedness.

Teaching is indeed the mother of all profession. That is why our mothers are our first teacher from when we are in their belly.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience with your Mathematics and Further Mathematics teacher and your Igbo teacher. I agree with your sentiment that teaching is a noble profession, and it takes a great deal of passion, skill, and dedication to be a good teacher.

It is heartening to hear that your late Mathematics teacher was not only proficient in his subject matter but also had a great personality and a passion for teaching. It is evident that he made a lasting impression on you and helped you develop a love for mathematics.

On the other hand, it is unfortunate that you did not have the same positive experience with your Igbo teacher. It can be challenging to learn from someone who lacks the necessary qualifications or is not passionate about teaching the subject. It is also true that the first impression of a teacher can significantly impact how well students receive their instruction.

Thank you for highlighting the factors that can influence how students grade their teachers, such as personality, expertise, and love for the subject. These insights are essential for teachers to understand how to connect better with their students and be more effective in their teaching.

Yes, those factors indeed are great consideration to how we see not only Teachers but also everyone in the world.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts with mine and also for leaving a wonderful comment after reading me.

I was just wondering, if it was really a mathematics teacher that was cool like that or you made a mistake😁. Gosh! I wish there are more maths teacher like him scattered across our schools. They said good people don't last, may your math teacher's soul rest in peace. Though he is late but his works are alive.

I wonder why teachers who are boring don't always miss their classes 😂. I love your conclusion, in life we don't just encounter people for nothing, whether they are good or bad, they can impact our lives in one way or the other. A big kudus to teachers, they are really trying, it is not easy at all.

I was very lucky With Late Mr. Sam I must say.... A lot of persons say otherwise about their mathematics teacher.
Sure, his works live on... Thanks for your condolences.

Those boring teachers, I guess they use alarm😂😂
They are always on time to deliver their boredom across every student.

Everybody surely has one or two things to impact in us if we should calm down and give them a chance.

Thanks as always for reading me and leaving a comment... I appreciate

I also admire those who teach, many do it with true vocation and are not always well rewarded. At least in my country, they are not.
And yes, there are teachers who are able to leave an indelible mark on us.

At least one thing we can both agree on, regardless of how sweet a maths teacher is, they are blessed with skill of knowing how to discipline student, I think the punishment skill is like an inbuilt battery 🤣🤣, I'm fascinated by your description of your math teacher, he must have been a great man. My condolences.

Thanks for sharing

Oops, I didn't know about the Pinmapple challenge actually but even if I did Know, there is little or nothing to offer since it's about travel 😂
I'm just stucked with school for now.. just a normal routine of hostel, hospital and library 😂😂.

Hopefully when I visit my elder bro when the semester is over, I'll surely share something

Thanks as always for the support, reading and leaving a comment also😃
