Zax from Benji, Zax & the Alien Prince

IMG_20220731_183005.jpg

It was perhaps exactly a year after my first encounter with this creature in the garden. In the same place - on the evergreen bush.

Well, a representative of this species, as one might guess. Not the same specimen.

In this part of the country, maybe because it is warmer, I started to meet these animals quite often. But I can tell you that in the part of the country where I grew up, they were extremely rare.

I can even remember vividly how, when I was a teenager, such a creature walked (ok, flew) into a bar.

IMG_20220731_183120.jpg

It had settled on the bar and would not budge from there. And all the people around - owners and customers (mostly men at that moment), did not dare to do anything.

IMG_20220731_183137.jpg

They didn't know what to do. And everyone was afraid of it.

IMG_20220731_183147.jpg
(Here, even the camera of the phone was afraid of it and couldn't manage to focus.) 😄

I guess at that time we all had only heard some scary stories about these animals. We hadn't seen any of them because they were rare.

IMG_20220731_183155.jpg

That's why everyone was terrified then.

And the rest — those like me who weren't in the bar at the time — sympathized with the horrified, horrifying from the distance of time and space. 😌

IMG_20220731_184155.jpg

Yes, I do remember how terrified I was then.

IMG_20220731_184223.jpg

Nowadays, from the distance of time and after all my encounters with this creature so far (I don't know why I thought of Benji, Zax & the Alien Prince today, while looking at those pictures and decided it looks like Zax 😆), I don't think I'm any less horrified at every new meeting with it.

IMG_20220731_184230.jpg

But you know what comforting thing I'm also thinking about today?

Most reassuringly, they are usually alone. In fact, I have seen at most two together in one place. No more. So, they do not attack gardens or fields at once and in large numbers. Because then the situation would look really scary. Not so much now.
One piece in the whole garden, it's not such a terrible thing. I can walk past it and pass it without consequence. 😊

These "guys" are usually between 5 and 10 cm long. At least these are the specimens I've seen.
If they are a bit bigger, they'll definitely scare the sh*t out of me ;)

I think that with time you just get used to them. When you see them more often, and when there are not many, but only one, you get used to them.
I have seen both smaller and larger than this specimen here. But it's comforting to know that even a man could be scared of them, not just a woman 😃
