The magical rooms in the rooms, some childhood memories

When I was little, my grandmother cleverly came up with the following game to keep an eye on me, my brother and our friends, but at the same time not to disturb her daily activities and to have a quiet routine during the holidays when she had to take care of us:
Under her guidance, we turned into "houses" large boxes that had windows cut out, on which we put a curtain, and the opening of the box was turned so that it served as an entrance.

Apart from that, we had smaller boxes in which we arranged our doll's "houses". Each box was divided into separate "rooms" and the dolls had their own bedrooms, kitchens and such. Dolls that we sewed clothes for to change their clothes every day. The fabrics came from scraps of clothes that my grandmother used to sew, as well as those that one of our friends' grandmother used to sew.

All these cartons, carton within carton, were placed in the glazed veranda of the house, and so we all, under my grandmother's idea, had built a magical little world. A fairytale world hidden inside the real world.

Therefore, like any other person, when I see such a decorated imitation of a room (shown in the pictures), I instinctively think of something familiar, namely the fictional houses of my childhood.
You can imagine that I'm not talking about real houses, because we didn't have the means to make them like that, but with a certain amount of imagination and with daily efforts, we turned them into our magical space.

I recently saw a fully furnished room in a mall. It was a bedroom set behind a display case. It was obviously a furniture company's showroom, but I felt special at the sight of it. Memories immediately flooded my mind. You know how the subconscious works - with images, smells and sensations. This time it was just images.

IMG_20221221_193219.jpg

And something else - it was something in something again, a room in a room. And let me tell you, that seems pretty peculiar to me. It's like when I was explaining to you about the tomb replica that was placed in a museum and you could walk inside. Okay, but this tomb is also set in an enclosed space.
You know what I'm talking about, maybe. People say you shouldn't walk under a ladder leaning against a house. Because the trinity between the ladder, the ground and the house will be broken. But when you go into a room that's in a room, I don't know what's being violated. But surely something is broken. 🤔

Well, these are my jumbled thoughts today, intertwined with my childhood memories, accompanied by the music of my favorite band in the background. I rarely get to write while listening to music, but today I especially need this music to complement the setting and get me out of something I'm not sure I want to get out of. Well, you see how messed up it is. 😃

Pictures were taken at a shopping center and this premises, an imitation of a room, is a sort of canteen where people can eat the food bought from a food stand.

Oh, no 😅 I stopped sharing the unconventional things I like a long time ago. It's too personal.
I can only say that it is about an Australian progressive metal band 😊

Lovely writeup, it is very true, the elderly has a funny way of keeping us in check by then. Good old days

Yes, and they were quite resourceful in the past. It's not like now, when they just put an iPad or a phone in the child's hands to keep him calm and peaceful. Our parents and grandparents had to use much more imagination to cope with the complex task of raising children. 😄

You said it all
Most parents of today hardly have time for their kids like the aged of old does, we can be the change we want

When I was a child, we were doing something similar with carton boxes... I remember we were creating cars from the boxes and I did the same with my son when he was around 4-5 yo... Those toys were the best ones that we had... There weren't a car, a doll, or a bike that would be beat the feeling of playing with a toy that we made ourselves!
I suppose that it's the same when we are adults... When we create something, we value that the most!
Thanks for sharing these great photos from the mall and reminding us about the true values!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

Hey, I'm glad I was able to touch your memories too.
You touch on an even deeper topic - about creating something that should be nurtured in children from an early age. But it was different with us - we created a lot of things when we were small because we didn't have enough money to buy them. Of course, I don't regret my childhood, it was very interesting and I love it. It has nothing to do with what today's kids have. And I would also pass the same to my children as you did. 😊

There is no money that can buy that sparkle in the eye of a child when it creates something with its own hands... Or together with his parent...
Maybe today's children have fancy toys, and I know that was jealous of my friend's toy cars collection... But looking back to those years, I wouldn't change them for anything... :)

It rather reminded me more of a decoration that is typical of other countries, not of mine. And that's why it also made a big impression on me. Except that one might mistake it for a real room. 😄

I remember tying up my mom's saree to the beam on the ceiling and used to swing and my brothers and I used to pile up pillows and act as if we were riding an elephant. Thanks for stirring up memories. Voted on behalf of the Neoxian city paper.

I totally can relate to your experience and memories. We played similar kinds of games. And I can guarantee that it was much more fun than any video game. Good to hear you got the opportunity to bring back your old memories.

As I wrote, the subconscious mind works in interesting ways to awaken memories.
I'm glad there are other people who remember those times and experienced what I did then. 😊 Everything is very different now.
