Beyond nature - Veleka River Mouth

What would you say if I show you this picture:

IMG_20221009_215932.jpg

And what would you say about this one:

IMG_20221009_220353.jpg

Or this one:

IMG_20221009_221540.jpg

Of course, for people in the Southern Hemisphere, where summer is yet to come, or for countries where there is no winter, these pictures mean nothing. But for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere who are getting a taste of the long and cold winter ahead, these pictures mean a lot.

IMG_20221009_215901.jpg

And personally, I think that I am only now realizing the meaning of what I told you some time ago - that it is better to do the summer posts outside the summer. Then they mean more, don't they? Therefore, in the coming weeks I intend to show you a lot of things and places photographed on the sea. What do you think? 😊

IMG_20221009_222220.jpg

And today, the place I want to show you and take you to is this: Veleka River Mouth Protected Area, as written on this welcome-prohibition sign.
Or the place where the Veleka River flows into the Black Sea.

IMG_20221009_222149.jpg

Yes, the way this place welcomes its guests is quite strange - it's kind of like a barricade here. Maybe to stop cars from entering. And maybe it needs it. As well as it needs the prohibitions with which it welcomes. Because for there to be these bans, it means people used to do just that here - make fires, camp, drive in, and leave their trash... Nothing unusual for Bulgarians, also for many of the foreigners who like to visit or even live in this country.

IMG_20221009_221852.jpg

Fortunately, though, there seem to be people here even in the off-season. I mean not only tourists. But people who could take care of the place.

IMG_20221009_221820.jpg

IMG_20221009_222038.jpg

IMG_20221009_221703.jpg

I mean, there are cafes here.

IMG_20221009_221452.jpg

IMG_20221009_221344.jpg

IMG_20221009_221621.jpg

This was an interesting sight because these pictures were taken at the end of May. And Bulgaria, although slightly warmer than Romania, which has access to the same sea, is still not suitable for swimming at this time of the year.

IMG_20221009_215820.jpg

But there was no lack of people here. Even then.
Tourists, locals and foreigners. Any kind...

And I think I already have an explanation for that.

IMG_20221009_220105.jpg

I'm not sure that ever before, when I came across such a place, I realized its essence and significance. The way I realize it now. After I've been here once. Right here. At this mouth.

IMG_20221009_220011.jpg

IMG_20221009_215658.jpg

IMG_20221009_220211.jpg

IMG_20221009_220307.jpg

IMG_20221009_220609.jpg

IMG_20221009_220818.jpg

IMG_20221009_220857.jpg

IMG_20221009_220653.jpg

What do I mean?

I mean this:

IMG_20221009_215551.jpg

The place where the river flows into the sea here is particularly special. I don't know if it's like that everywhere else. Wherever a river flows into the sea.

IMG_20221009_220424.jpg

IMG_20221009_220732.jpg

But here it seems even the people who visit this place are aware of it. It is obvious. It is felt. It can be seen.

IMG_20221009_221008.jpg

I know there are people who come here every year. Regardless of whether they are Bulgarians or foreigners.

This place attracts certain people who come here as a pilgrimage. This is my understanding of things. Because I too seemed to be here on a pilgrimage.
I came to see the mouth of the river. Walking past people who were too much like for this time of year.

IMG_20221009_220456.jpg

IMG_20221009_220515.jpg

IMG_20221009_220937.jpg

I even passed people who had stripped naked and were walking on the beach without any shame.
First, this is not a nudist beach.
Second, it wasn't even nudism, it was exhibitionism from their part.
And third, I couldn't help but photograph them. (Don't worry, pictures are censored.)
And no, I'm not ashamed of my deed. As I've said before about my photos - they (the people in the photos) should be ashamed, not me.

IMG_20221011_183437.jpg

IMG_20221011_183527.jpg

But I can assume that it's just the place that works that way. It creates a special feeling that attracts so many people here.

IMG_20221009_221147.jpg

Including me.

IMG_20221009_221100.jpg

No, I'm not some hippie who likes to camp or sleep in a tent or doesn't mind not having good sanitation, water for bathing, etc. (Yes, that's all forbidden here, but its visitors seem to fall for it.)

IMG_20221009_221305.jpg

But this place is definitely for appreciation

IMG_20221009_221750.jpg

And I will stop here with its description, because there are things that go beyond purely natural descriptions. And this is one such place. Its essence and meaning go beyond.

I went on vacation to Bulgaria's Pomorie more than ten years ago, and if I recall correctly, it was almost the end of the season.
I was unimpressed because I had never seen so many algae or jellyfish in my life.

However, this is a beautiful sight, for camping, indeed.

Yes, it was at the end of the season. What you describe is normal to happen then.
Perhaps I forgot to mention that I personally do not use the Bulgarian sea for vacation in the true sense of the word. I can admire and appreciate the beauties of nature, but I can't go there during the season, precisely because of the polluted water of the sea, where sensitive people like me immediately get sick. So I prefer to come here in the off-season as a traveler and discoverer, not as a vacationer. 😊😎 And there is definitely a lot to see and visit here.

Not sure why I did it, hahah.

The architecture is stunning, and everything seems to have stopped time in some way. It's not like everything is so black, aside from the sea, literally. 😂
Your photos lead me to believe that not much has changed and that the overall impression has remained the same.

Yes, it is a very slow developing country. In every respect. I've said it before. But still, there is a lot to see and experience here, despite everything (even I was surprised by this fact).
Hey, why don't you join the community and share here (even by cross-posting) your Europe-related stuff? 😊

I appreciate the invitation. Since I frequently stalk and read about other people's travels, I might stop by.

Maybe someday I'll have second thoughts and give back another visit to Bulgaria, till then I ll read about it trough your posts.😉

You are a lucky person living in this country. You know that, right? 😄 Millions of people around the world dream of someday living in a warm country, by the sea, etc.
I have sometimes thought about the Bulgarian coast as an option for living, where quite a few foreigners live btw - people from countries with a colder climate. But it's not the same. It's not like Greece. Not like in Spain. So you are a lucky man. 😊

What I would say comes out as a single word for each photo. In order of appearance they are: hot, refreshing, relaxing.

I enjoy how you bring the feeling of your experience to the post. It helps me see what draws people to visit this magical place where the river meets the sea. Apparently this includes attracting exhibitionists in all their glory. I imagine there is a lot less judgment on Bulgaria than you would get here on America.

Thank you for sharing.

I wouldn't say that. The country came only a few decades ago out of the communist regime, when everything that deviated from the norm was banned. I think we are still too closed off to the different (although so many foreigners adore this country and live here with pleasure).
However, people without any inhibitions are everywhere. 😃 As well as places that encourage you to forget inhibitions. Apparently, this is one of them.
Thank you for appreciating my writing style! Very often I think that I don't really manage to express exactly what I feel, or what it feels like in that particular place. While actually emotions are what is most important to me, speaks best and conveys things in the best possible way in my opinion...

I agree regarding the emotions and my opinion is that you are doing a great job expressing them. I look forward to seeing more of your experiences.

I suspect this place has that magical property of being everyone's favorite. Whether visited in person or simply viewed through photos.
The magic of nature, I would say. And something beyond it. 😊
Have a wonderful evening you too, dear @jlufer!
