Found a nice construction - Round planters

Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design community. I'm glad to greet you again, although I have sadness for a friend who will no longer be among us on the platform. Surely some of you knew him, he is @lecumberre a gentleman who wrote and sang with passion but cancer struck him dead despite fighting until the last moment of his great life. In the @mundo.autismo community he was known as the blue poet and we will miss him very much. It's so hard to accept that you have to go on in life under the shadow of death. It is sad but it is the truth.

So, I continue with this publication because I want to show you a construction work that I saw in a house while I was walking through Laureles, a very nice area of Medellin. I tell you that one day I passed by there and I saw some round planters that were being built by a couple of workers. That was several months ago. The truth is that I liked the design, it may seem simple but I liked it and I stopped to photograph part of the process because some of them were already finished and others were still under construction.

Well, I started to take pictures and the masons were looking at me, so I told them that I liked the work and that's why I wanted to take some pictures. They changed their attitude and even smiled. It was more comfortable to take the pictures, of course without them being in them, that was the condition. The workers helped me with little information because they were not very talkative, but they told me that it was a fast job and that few materials were needed.

The truth is that it looked like an easy job to do, but everything in construction has its technique. In this case, for the planters to look good, you have to follow some steps, make measurements, think about the type of plants that the client wants to plant so that the diameter and depth is adequate. Let's not forget that it must have a drainage. In other words, they must be functional and beautiful planters.

They used clay bricks, cement, water and I saw no sand.

Usaban ladrillos de arcilla, cemento, agua y no vi arena.

The concrete mix was prepared in metal buckets.

Diapositiva9.JPG

Ready the concrete base with clay bricks and with its respective drainage, we start making the border with the bricks. This is where the magic begins because for me the beauty of these planters is thanks to the design of the border with the bricks.

Perfect symmetry in the placement of the bricks. I really like the style of the workers in this simple construction job. Look at the drain at the base of the planter, flush with the floor.

Diapositiva14.JPG

The concrete is placed to join the bricks. I could not see the concrete being poured, remember that it was a job that I saw by chance while passing by the place and some planters were already finished.

Diapositiva18.JPG

The test is made to check the operation of the drain and there are no problems in the water outlet.

When the planter structures are finished, gravel is placed before the soil.

Diapositiva16.JPG

Diapositiva17.JPG

I stopped by another day and the planters were doing their job. That was excellent. As you can see after the gravel the soil is placed and some garden palms were planted.

Diapositiva22.JPG

A total of six planters were built, three on the right side of the house and three in the front. I really enjoyed seeing how these planters were a nice detail in that well-kept, old-style house.

What do you think of the planters? I would like to know other opinions. For now I say goodbye and I hope you liked my content. Bye bye.

¿Qué opinan de las jardineras? Me gustará conocer otras opiniones. Chao, chao.

That is very creative! It's nice to see the process of making those planters. The laying of bricks symmetrically is very impressive

True creativity and artistry comes in many forms and sizes. It doesn't matter how small the project is as long as it's done with sincere passion. And these round planters are gorgeous examples of it. Awesome work dear friend @sorprendente! ☺️

These round planters are amazing @sorprendente! Although there are other simpler and easier ways of crafting them, the workers chose a meticulous yet artistic approach. A labor of love indeed! ☺️
