Admiring the Obelisco Shopping Mall | Medellín - Colombia
Greetings friends architecture lovers, it is a real pleasure to be in this wonderful community to show you part of the Obelisco Mall, here in Medellin, Colombia. I have been very busy and in a free time from work I could go out to do some personal errands and pass by this building that calls my attention but I had not taken pictures of it. The good thing is that I took a few with my iPhone and I show them to you because it is a building worth admiring.
Saludos amigos amantes de la arquitectura, es un verdadero placer estar en esta comunidad maravillosa para mostrarles parte del Centro Comercial Obelisco, aquí en Medellín, Colombia. Vaya que he estado muy ocupado y en un tiempo libre de trabajo pude salir hacer unas diligencias personales y pasar por este edificio que me llama mucho la atención pero que no le había tomado fotos. Lo bueno es que ya le hice unas cuantas con mi iPhone y se las muestro porque es una construcción digna de admirar.
No doubt you will know which is my favorite side when you see this building with that kind of glass tower with an amazingly designed dome-like apex in an oriental style. Which makes me think that the name of the Obelisk Mall must be related to this structure.
Sin duda que sabrás cual es mi lado favorito al ver este edificio con esa especie de torre de cristal con una cúspide con un diseño asombroso como con una cúpula en un estilo oriental. Lo que me hace pensar que el nombre del Centro Comercial Obelisco debe estar relacionado a esta estructura.
Although I don't know who the architect of this mall is, I think his work deserves a lot of recognition and also that it is very well preserved even though it is not a new building. But before showing you the interior, take a look at the exterior, specifically the façade where the entrance to the mall is located.
Aunque no sé quien es el arquitecto de este centro comercial, me parece que su trabajo merece mucho reconocimiento y además que está muy bien conservado a pesar que no es un edificio nuevo. Pero antes de mostrarles el interior vean un poco más el exterior, específicamente la fachada donde se encuentra la entrada al centro comercial.
This is a commercial and business building, which brings together stores and offices in an important and very busy area of Medellín. It is located in front of the important Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex, a venue for national and international events, and you can also get to know it in three parts. 1, 2 and 3.
Este es un edificio comercial y empresarial, por lo que reúne tiendas y oficinas en una zona de Medellín importante y muy transitada. Se encuentra al frente del importante Complejo Deportivo Atanasio Girardot, lugar de eventos nacionales e internacionales y también lo puedes conocer en tres partes. 1, 2 y 3.

Once you enter the first thing you find is the dining area, which is a very nice space, well distributed, with a modern atmosphere, very colorful but with harmony in the color combinations. You can see how tidy it is and above all very clean.
Una vez que entras lo primero que te encuentras es el área de comida, que es un espacio muy agradable, bien distribuido, con un ambiente moderno, muy colorido pero con armonía en la combinaciones de colores. Pueden ver lo ordenado que es y sobre todo muy limpio.
The capable roof is very nice and decorated with colored LED lights.
El techo por capaz es muy bonito y adornado con luces de LED de colores.
Take a picture in one of the aisles but always looking to highlight the ceiling among the path of stores. There are many aisles like this one with many shops with a variety of products and services.
Tome una foto en uno de los pasillos pero siempre buscando resaltar el techo entre el camino de tiendas. Hay muchos pasillos como éste con muchos locales comerciales con variedad de productos y servicios.
It has several staircases and one of them is this concrete one with granite floor and a design that I really liked. In addition, natural light enters through the glass blocks that give it beauty and lots of illumination.
Tiene varias escaleras y una de ellas es ésta de concreto con piso de granito y con su diseño que me gustó mucho. Además, le entra luz natural a través de los bloques de vidrio que le dan belleza y mucha iluminación.
Another staircase is located in the center of the food court and receives the natural light that enters from the front from the entrance of the mall and the LED lights distributed in the aisles, on the ceiling and in the stores.
Otra escalera es ésta que se encuentra en el centro de la zona de comida y recibe la luz natural que entra de frente desde la entrada del centro comercial y las luces led distribuidas en los pasillos, en el techo y en las tiendas.
Escalators are also indispensable in buildings like this one and the best thing is that they do work, because special thought must be given to the people who need to use this type of stairs.
Las escaleras mecánicas también son indispensables en edificios como éste y lo mejor es que si funcionan, porque hay que pensar especialmente en las personas que necesiten usar este tipo de escaleras.
Finally I took a picture of the granite floor, which is always a good option to decorate and give beauty to the environment, it is also ideal for its resistance and durability.
Por último le tomé foto al piso de granito, que siempre es una buena opción para decorar y dar belleza al ambiente, también es ideal por la resistencia y durabilidad.

Impressive building dear friend @sorprendente! Of all the exterior features, many would probably claim that the mall's pointed tower would be the most striking element. And I agree! It has the closest resemblance to an obelisk, hence the related name for that establishment. For its interiors, I simply admire the cantilevered staircase as the focal point of the surrounding environment. Not only is it a structural feat but also an artistic masterpiece! 😊
Is there a radio, TV station or broadcasting company within the premises? The outside tower could be an ideal antenna for their signal advantage. Any ideas?
Hello dear friend @storiesoferne, it is a great honor to receive your impressions, well the truth my friend is that you made me think and I started to investigate online but I did not get among the local guide any radio station or television channel that works in the Obelisco Mall. However, there are auditoriums on the top floors and sometimes there are shows or events in the mall that may be broadcast by the media. Oh by the way, the staircase is in the center and it is like the focal point as you say and I plan to prepare a special material soon, because the stairs call my attention a lot, in their different forms, aesthetics and functionality.
