El viaje a la libertad les costará la vida || Alien Romulus: Opinión [ESP-ENG]

Durante mucho tiempo, Rain solo ha soñado con una cosa: ver los atardeceres, y ahora, tras muchos años de trabajo y obediencia, parece que dicho sueño está a punto de hacerse realidad. Tanto ella como Andy (el androide que adora como un hermano) están a un paso del ensueño que les ha costado una vida de labor en un planeta caótico, repleto de lluvias sin cielo, miseria y una condena de hostigamiento. No lo harán de la forma en la que creen, por supuesto. Antes, deberán conocer a unas criaturas parasitarias...

Ante lo que parece ser su última esperanza, Rain, Andy y un puñado de rebeldes irán al espacio para poner en marcha su plan: apoderarse de una nave abandonada y fijar un curso a la libertad. ¿Cuánto costará? ¡Debieron quedarse en ese planeta chatarra del que tanto deseaban huir!

For a long time, Rain has dreamed of only one thing: watching sunsets, and now, after many years of toil and obedience, it seems that dream is about to come true. Both she and Andy (the android she adores like a brother) are one step away from the reverie that has cost them a lifetime of toil on a chaotic planet, replete with skyless rains, misery and a sentence of harassment. They won't do it the way they think, of course. First, they will have to meet some parasitic creatures...

Faced with what seems to be their last hope, Rain, Andy and a handful of rebels will go into space to put their plan into action: seize a derelict ship and set a course to freedom. How much will it cost? They should have stayed on that junk planet they wanted to escape from so badly!

Alien ha regresado con una película que, sin duda alguna, nos devuelve al clásico horror extraterrestre fundado en 1979 bajo la mente de Ridley Scott. La nostalgia juega un papel fundamental en los escenarios de Romulus, envueltos en una escenografía retro, pero moderna, con un estilo honorable hacia sus más viejas entregas predecesoras. De allí esa belleza extraña, y digo "extraña" por su sanguinario desenlace. Y con ella vuelve esa tensa forma en la que agradeces no ser infectado por esos parásitos de patas y aguijones que, rápidos y hambrientos, buscan un pecho cálido en donde incubarse.

La concepción de Ridley Scott fue superpuesta, muchos años después, por Fede Álvarez. Honor a quien honor merece, al menos, en la ejecución tan limpia de una película tan explotada como Alien. Lo mismo aburre, sí, pero cuando no se sabe contar. En Romulus le echarás un vistazo a la débil brecha entre el deber y la humanidad, mientras un montón de monstruos amenazan con darte unos cuantos sustos. ¿Quién hubiese pensado que unas criaturas ficticias dieran tantas pesadillas?

Alien is back with a film that, without a doubt, brings us back to the classic extraterrestrial horror founded in 1979 under the mind of Ridley Scott. Nostalgia plays a fundamental role in the scenarios of Romulus, wrapped in a retro, but modern scenery, with an honorable style towards its older predecessor installments. Hence that strange beauty, and I say “strange” because of its bloody denouement. And with it comes back that tense way in which you are grateful not to be infected by those legged and stinging parasites that, fast and hungry, are looking for a warm chest to incubate in.

Ridley Scott's conception was superimposed, many years later, by Fede Álvarez. Honor to whom honor is due, at least, in the clean execution of a film as exploited as Alien. The same thing bores, yes, but when you don't know how to tell. In Romulus you'll get a glimpse of the faint gap between duty and humanity, while a bunch of monsters threaten to give you a few scares. Who would have thought that fictional creatures would give so many nightmares?

Una mirada rápida a Romulus, y te encontrarás con el peculiar cúmulo de personajes destinados a sobrevivir, aun cuando algo te dice que no todos sobrevivirán. Rain (Cailee Spaeny) no fue un personaje tan épico como otros que sí hemos visto por ahí, pero es su nostalgia la que nos ayuda a comprender esa lucha que libra contra su destino, todavía más cuando la muerte la amenaza con forma de xenomorfo. El otro, es decir, su "hermano androide" (David Jonsson) tendrá que comprender el precio del deber, en la medida en que un robot pueda comprender algo.

Ahora bien, Romulus no es solo la exaltación a una libertad plagada de peligros mortales... hay algo más: yo diría que una muestra sobre el camino de la humanidad y sus ansias de poder que terminan en caos. Esta entrega conecta con el futuro de aquel emblemático personaje conocido como Ellen Ripley. De hecho, la película es una continuación a los hechos que terminaron con el alien que conocimos en la película de 1979.

One quick look at Romulus, and you'll find the quirky cast of characters destined to survive, even if something tells you they won't all survive. Rain (Cailee Spaeny) wasn't as epic a character as others we've seen, but it's her nostalgia that helps us understand her struggle against her destiny, even more so when death threatens her in the form of a xenomorph. The other, that is, her “android brother” (David Jonsson) will have to understand the price of duty, insofar as a robot can understand anything.

Now, Romulus is not only the exaltation to a freedom plagued by mortal dangers... there is something more: I would say a show about the path of humanity and its lust for power that ends in chaos. This installment connects to the future of that iconic character known as Ellen Ripley. In fact, the movie is a continuation of the events that ended with the alien we met in the 1979 film.

Alien Romulus gana con creces al momento de atraparte, y no precisamente para incubar una criatura en tu pecho. La película es consecuente con la esencia de Alien: al menos la esencia original. Regresamos a las distopías dentro de una nave espacial en la que, esos monstruos llamados xenomorfos andan por allí, hambrientos, deseosos de originar en tus huesos cierta sensación incómoda y horripilante. Este es un film que sin duda recomiendo, sobre todo si amas la saga que, alguna vez, y todavía, nos sigue mostrando que el cosmos no es tan bello como algunos piensas.

Sobre todo, por las criaturas que puedes llegar a encontrar dentro de este.

Alien Romulus wins hands down when it grabs you, and not exactly to hatch a creature in your chest. The film is consistent with the essence of Alien: at least the original essence. We return to the dystopias inside a spaceship in which, those monsters called xenomorphs are around, hungry, eager to originate in your bones a certain uncomfortable and horrifying sensation. This is a film that I definitely recommend, especially if you love the saga that once, and still, continues to show us that the cosmos is not as beautiful as some people think.

Above all, because of the creatures that you can find inside it.
