The city was born and is being made | Monomad Challenge [ENG-ESP]

What does it take to create a city? Are the ones that have originated with minimal planning different from the ones that were planned with all the details? Surely they are.

¿Qué se necesita para crear una ciudad? ¿Las que se han originado con mínima planificación son diferentes a las que se proyectaron con todos los detalles? Seguramente lo son.

It's not every day that we have the opportunity to observe the birth of one, or at least its development some time after it begins to be inhabited.

No todos los días aparece la oportunidad de observar el nacimiento de una, o al menos su desarrollo un tiempo después de empezar a ser habitada.

In this case I am talking about Ciudad Caribia, an urban complex located near the Venezuelan capital that was designed with the objective of becoming a city, with all that this implies.

En este caso hablo de Ciudad Caribia, un complejo urbanístico ubicado cerca de la capital venezolana que fue diseñado con el objetivo de convertirse en una ciudad, con todo lo que eso implica.

When I took these photos, the idea was to document some spaces of this city to illustrate some texts that talked about its constitution, so I focused mainly on its structures.

Cuando hice estas fotos, la idea era documentar algunos espacios de esta ciudad para ilustrar unos textos que hablaban de su constitución, entonces me enfoqué más que todo en sus estructuras.

Construction of Ciudad Caribia began in 2006 and was part of an agreement between Cuba and Venezuela, whose objective was to provide low-cost housing for families who were left homeless. The housing development was inaugurated in 2011 and some 10,000 people currently live there.

La construcción de Ciudad Caribia comenzó en 2006 y formaba parte de un acuerdo entre Cuba y Venezuela, cuyo objetivo era proporcionar viviendas a bajo costo para familias que se habían quedado sin hogar. La urbanización se inauguró en 2011 y actualmente viven en ella unas 10.000 personas.

In the city there are a number of buildings, some 5 stories and others more than 10, which visually gives variety to the environment. Also, the architecture and materials vary, some towers have prefabricated columns (tubes) and others of concrete, and also some have walls covered with small bricks and others simpler, of cement.

En la ciudad hay una serie de edificios, algunos de 5 pisos y otros de más de 10, lo que visualmente le da variedad al entorno. Asimismo, la arquitectura y materiales varían, algunas torres tienen columnas prefabricadas (tubos) y otras de hormigón, y también unas lucen paredes revestidas de pequeños ladrillos y otras más sencillas, de cemento.

Conceived as a city, this urbanism has everything: schools, banks, supermarket and other stores, sports and recreational areas, radio station, police station, courthouse, church, hospital, crops, etc., and other spaces that are emerging with the creativity of the people who live there.

Al ser concebido como una ciudad, este urbanismo tiene de todo: escuelas, bancos, supermercado y otras tiendas, áreas deportivas y recreativas, emisora de radio, estación policial, juzgados, iglesia, hospital, sembradíos, etc., y otros espacios que van surgiendo con la creatividad de la gente que allí habita.

The mountainous area where Ciudad Caribia is located is huge, it has 11,370 hectares, of which 6,000 are for development. I suppose that as time goes by, people will give it its essence, many say that planned cities like this one lack soul, spontaneity, but who knows, not all cases are the same.

El área montañosa donde ese encuentra Ciudad Caribia es enorme, tiene 11.370 hectáreas, de las cuales 6.000 son para el desarrollo. Supongo que a medida que pase el tiempo, la gente le irá dando su esencia, muchos dicen que las ciudades planificadas como esta carecen de alma, de espontaneidad, pero quien sabe, no todos los casos son iguales.

The construction has not stopped here, we will have to visit it in a few years to see how its social dynamics continue, it was born with the name of a city, but did it manage to become one?

La construcción no se ha detenido aquí, habrá que visitarla dentro de unos años para ver cómo continúa su dinámica social, nació con el nombre de ciudad, pero ¿consiguió llegar a serlo?
