Before the opening... Ribas Theater [ENG-ESP]

Sometimes we go around wishing for things and soon after they are fulfilled, that's what I come to show you today with these photos.

A veces vamos por ahí deseando cosas y al poco tiempo se cumplen, es lo que vengo a mostrar hoy con estas fotos.

It is the Ribas Theater in La Victoria (Venezuela), a cultural space that closed more than 30 years ago. I never saw it in operation, I think it stopped working before we moved to this city when I was a child.

Se trata del Teatro Ribas de La Victoria (Venezuela), un espacio cultural que cerró hace más de 30 años. Yo nunca lo vi operativo, creo que dejó de funcionar antes de que nos mudáramos a esta ciudad cuando yo era pequeña.

In January of this year I made a post showing what was left of the Ribas Theater, only its facade, and I left there a few words about how I would like to see this cultural space rebuilt soon for the enjoyment of the people. This is how the place was at that time:

En enero de este año hice una publicación mostrando lo que quedaba del Teatro Ribas, solamente su fachada, y dejé allí unas palabras sobre cómo me gustaría ver pronto reconstruido este espacio cultural para el disfrute de la gente. Así estaba el lugar en ese momento:

And well, it seems that my wish was heard, in mid-March the government authorities announced that the place would be recovered. As you can see in the photos, if you look at the spaces above the doors, behind the facade there was only an empty lot.

Y bueno, parece que mi deseo fue escuchado, a mediados de marzo las autoridades gubernamentales anunciaron que el lugar sería recuperado. Como ven en las fotos, si se fijan en los espacios arriba de las puertas, detrás de la fachada sólo había un terreno vacío.

The reconstruction work began on March 23 with an investment of approximately $500,000, and the mayor said it would be completed in about 3 months, that is, this month. I had in mind to go by there these days to see how it was going, and to my surprise the theater is almost ready, only some decoration details are missing.

Las obras de reconstrucción se iniciaron el 23 de marzo con una inversión aproximada de 500.000 dólares, y el alcalde dijo que se culminarían en unos 3 meses, es decir este mes. Tenía en mente pasar por allí estos días para ver cómo iba, y para mi sorpresa el teatro está casi listo, sólo faltan algunos detalles de decoración.

Although they have not announced a date for the inauguration, it will surely be within a few days. While I was there taking pictures, there was a great movement of people, workers were coming in and out, they were painting some parts, setting up lights, a screen in the entrance hall, placing the carpets on the doors, among other things.

Aunque no han anunciado una fecha para la inauguración, seguro será dentro de pocos días. Mientras estuve allí tomando las fotos, había gran movimiento de personas, los trabajadores entraban y salían, estaban pintando algunas partes, montando luces, una pantalla en el hall de entrada, colocando las alfombras en las puertas, entre otras cosas.

According to the information disclosed about the project, the new Ribas Theater has a capacity for 500 people, and its opening will undoubtedly give a new air to the historic center of the city.

Según la información divulgada sobre el proyecto, el nuevo Teatro Ribas tiene capacidad para 500 personas, y su apertura sin duda le dará un nuevo aire al centro histórico de la ciudad.

In addition to the new combination of colors used to highlight the building, another novelty is the letters with its name and with lights incorporated. I don't remember it having any signage to identify it before.

Además de la nueva combinación de colores que se usó para resaltar la edificación, otra novedad son las letras con su nombre, y con luces incorporadas. No recuerdo que antes tuviera ningún letrero que lo identificara.

Let's see also the back of the theater, although it is not very wide, it has enough depth, it covers a whole block.

Veamos también la parte trasera del teatro, aunque no es muy ancho, si tiene bastante profundidad, abarca toda una manzana.

The history of the Ribas Theater has had several stages since its construction began in 1891. According to what I read, it was 22 years later that it was finished, and the inauguration took place in 1913.

La historia del Teatro Ribas ha tenido varias etapas desde que se comenzó a construir en el año 1891. Según leí, fue 22 años después que se terminó, y la inauguración tuvo lugar en 1913.

Its design was inspired by the Teatro de la Scala in Milan (Italy), and its first name was Teatro Bolivar. It also served as a movie theater and was owned by the State until 1946, when it was sold and the buyer decided to demolish it and build a new one.

Su diseño se inspiró en el Teatro de la Scala de Milán (Italia), y su primer nombre fue Teatro Bolívar. También funcionó como cine y fue propiedad del Estado hasta 1946, cuando fue vendido y el que lo compró decidió demolerlo y construir otro nuevo.

Many years later, in 1992, the theater returned to state ownership and was renamed the Ribas Theater.

Muchos años después, en 1992, el teatro volvió a ser propiedad del Estado y pasó a llamarse Teatro Ribas.

And then, I couldn't find out exactly when, it closed its doors and deteriorated until only the facade remained.

Y luego, no encontré exactamente cuándo, cerró sus puertas y se fue deteriorando hasta que solamente quedó la fachada.

Fortunately, new stories will begin to be written there from the day it reopens its doors to contribute to the cultural development of the city and its people.

Afortunadamente, a partir del día en que reabra sus puertas comenzarán a escribirse allí nuevas historias que contribuirán al desarrollo cultural de la ciudad y su gente.
