Splinterlands Strategies: Changing Rental Practices
How things can change quickly. If Splinterlands changes something, then everyone jumps to attention and it’s a new rule-set.
The new Rewards schema is now in its second season. I like it and let's be honest it can't be worse than the previous schema.
Looking from a renter's perspective a lot has changed. The end-of-season gorge is gone, extinct, and no more!
...'the old days at end of season when CP mattered. Look at that ROA, we may never see these sights again'...
As primarily a card slumlord I should be in grief about this news. 100,000 DEC on the last day was fully expected and now it's gone.
To put things into perspective that’s around $68 at today’s lousy DEC valuation.
A lot of cash you say? That depends on your stake, it's all relative. If you invest, you get the yield.
What has happened now is my daily rental returns have increased by around 100%, every day. I will happily lose that end-of-season madness for this exchange.
The end-of-season timings was a pain in the arse. Evict everyone at 36 hours, wait until the last 24 hours, list at 28CP, see what happens, decrease to 36CP, etc...
I can do without it, but now there are new rules and things you need to watch for.
Chaos Legion Summoners are in HIGH RENTAL DEMAND. From Level 2 upwards things have very much changed.
As a renter, I am aware that some people are trying to rent their summoners at low prices, or it's ignorance or possibly some kind of manipulation going on.
Take Tarsa at L2. Look at the rental prices. They should start at 22 DEC per day yet there often seems to be someone willing to rent their cards at a 90% discount.
Be wary of the Change Price option in the excellent PeakMonsters. If you hit 'LOAD' and your summoner seems too low in rental value, there could be a decoy one trying to fix the price.
It could be paranoia and you can’t manually check every price but I see it a lot on summoners. Manually adjust your price to what is fair and slightly less than the rest.
Maybe @asgarth could add an extra tick box such as ‘Set lowest market price and ignore ridiculous prices’. Just a thought.
While the demand for renting summoners has never been higher, the price for buying them is still in decline.
The philosophy of the Splinterlands team about ownership is not quite working out… yet.
If Summoners are cheap then I will be buying many of them, and have been doing so. Let me reprise what I said earlier.
If the rental prices of Chaos Legion cards are spiking, it's harming the older cards.
Betas are renting but the return is hardly great. 1%-2% reminds me of the banking system when there is a special deal (otherwise it's 0%).
It's all about CP. CP appears to be much less important than when using the old reward system. Players are content to lounge around in the Bronze league and can you blame them?
5 Diamond chests or 50 Bronze chests…
Which would you prefer? I have had 600 DEC from a Bronze chest more than once, and the 'bigger' chests are very much a gamble.
I have taken to playing a couple of accounts gaining Bronze chests but in the Silver league. It’s great…, you get lots of chests and the thrill of opening them.
Potions are useless? I think they are great but I am a card buyer. If you rent to farm then yes… they are useless.
...'the current price for 2500 Alchemy Potions. The less I have to buy..., the better'...
When RiftWatchers is released I will need LOTS of potions and my buys will be offset from these ‘free’ ones in the ‘crap’ Bronze chests.
I love Bronze chests, but how long are they going to keep flowing like they currently are?
I feel the Splinterlands Team may be making further changes to the rewards shortly. Think about what they 'might' do, and what they are pushing for and you may be ahead of the game.
- Earn currency while you play and become a global Rock Star with Rising Star
- Own assets, and earn currency while playing one of the oldest, most established Crypto Games, Splinterlands

I think I'll choose 50 bronze chest, this might seem really stupid and all the 50 loot might just end up not being worth anything. But then, for me, it's the More the merrier.

I'm renting out a few right now and playing with the rest. I've been getting up to Diamond, but just playing for fun really.
I am still no convinced about the renting BOT, am trialing in now. Lack of detailed information is putting me off. Inspecting the chain is tough to read.

I’m only earning about 475 DEC a day. … about 32 cents. I need to make some. Changes.
I have been trying https://splex.gg/. It looks great but am not convinced as yet. If you are not on top of things it's the way to go. High fees though at 20% (PeakM is 5%).
I use splinterlands.rentals now. It's a massive time saver with a smart and reactive developer. They're currently rebranding as they're just about to launch their market service. They have some really great free tools too.

Hmmm. That sort of stuff is not so important for me. I can see the results of the actions it's taken. If I want to cancel or see if it's in the process of canceling, for example, I use Peak.
For me, I am handing over control of my assets for renting to someone else. If I can't see logs then how do I know what's happening?
I take it you used to use PeakM to rent, who charge 5%? This service is 20%, but does it gives you a significant increase in DEC over PeakM?
They only have the posting key so I'm not sure what they could be doing with my assets that I wouldn't be OK with. I can see what they are renting for.
Yes I used to use Peak and I agree 20% seems a bit steep in comparison but it is a huge time saver for me. It's difficult to measure the exact increase in DEC because of all the recent changes but it looks substantial to me, even with the 20% fee.
Apart from the time saving aspect the biggest advantage seems to be that the cards are rented for a higher percentage of time at optimum rents.

The option to change the price in the game often constitutes a trap, as the rental value of the summoner must be monitored, but I think that setting the price more than once and checking it manually is OK, but is it possible to find another way?
It feels like a lot of people set their DEC prices for rentals when DEC was half a cent or more. Now that it's under its so called "peg" of $0.001 it feels like no one adjusted their prices and people are getting rentals for near nothing!
That might change come land when monsters and summoners get put to work but that's still some time away.

That is going to chew up many monsters and summoners. I am already preparing for it, and so should you if you own PLOT. I feel rentals are still too cheap but the market is still acclimatising to the new rewards system.
Hmmm. Maybe one of these days I'll actually go and check what I'm up to with those rentals. I remember going once and setting something up, then forgot. Went again later and I think made some adjustments but I'm not sure. I probably went a year or more not even knowing I had cards. All this micromanaging was never my thing. I've the same issue with tribe tokens. Gave up trying to stay on top of things long ago.
Look at you with Alpha's 😀 (I snooped). This might be good for you (https://splex.gg/), but not for me.. as I'm a micromanagement freak with my cards. Tokens.., I sell nearly all.., mostly a waste of time.

Yours are all L1, so are not very usable. Think of them as rare art.

It is the new reward system which has hiked the rental prices, and new players are feeling like not owned anymore, why we are here, the spell book catch lose $10 and then start packs have no value so far.
The new system will lock the rentals for rental period once the card is rented, card owner can't cancel the rent.
Devs are experimenting with game system, see where SPS stands now, even I saw a little bull but SPS has not jumped more than 0.002 points.
Fair enough if the renter agrees to a long term lease. Not sure I want to do that.

That is a really good point about the load lowest button. I have a feeling I haven't been paying as much attention to that as I should be.
When you are changing the prices of several hundred you can't check them all, but look for very low prices.
