Recuerdo que cuando empecé a leer Matar a un Ruiseñor me atrapó la deliciosa sencillez y naturalidad con la que Harper Lee aborda los temas más profundos que afectan nuestra manera de relacionarnos en la vida familiar y con el resto de la sociedad.
En esa obra Harper Lee nos lleva a ver los sucesos desde el punto de vista de Scout Finch. Una curiosa niña que va descubriendo las virtudes y las debilidades del ser humano en los hechos más cotidiano de la vida.
En una vida sencilla que transcurre entre los juegos propios de la infancia y la ilusión del primer amor Scout Finch trata de entender el comportamiento de los adultos en una comunidad llena de prejuicios.
Cuando su padre Atticus acepta defender ante la justicia a un hombre negro acusado de violar a una mujer blanca ella aprende sobre valores importantes como la lealtad, el agradecimiento y la valentía, pero también aprende sobre los errores e injusticias que puede cometer una sociedad cuando se deja llevar por los prejuicios raciales, sociales, de géneros o todo aquello que le parezca diferente.
Matar a un Ruiseñor es uno de mis libros favoritos, lo considero un llamado de conciencia sobre los prejuicios y el daño que pueden causar a una sociedad, y al mismo tiempo nos deja el mensaje esperanzador que no todo está perdido mientras existan personas valientes para denunciar y enfrentar las injusticias como lo hicieron Atticus Finch y Harper Lee.

I remember when I started reading To Kill a Mockingbird I was taken by the delightful simplicity and naturalness with which Harper Lee tackles the deepest issues that affect the way we relate to each other in our family life and to the rest of society.
In this work Harper Lee takes us to see the events from the point of view of Scout Finch. A curious little girl who discovers the virtues and weaknesses of the human being in the most everyday events of life.
In a simple life that passes between the games of childhood and the illusion of first love, Scout Finch tries to understand the behavior of adults in a community full of prejudices.
When her father Atticus agrees to defend in court a black man accused of raping a white woman, she learns about important values such as loyalty, gratitude and courage, but she also learns about the mistakes and injustices that a society can make when it allows itself to be carried away by racial, social, gender and other prejudices.
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books, I consider it a call of conscience about prejudice and the damage it can cause to a society, and at the same time it leaves us with the hopeful message that all is not lost as long as there are brave people to denounce and confront injustices as Atticus Finch and Harper Lee did.
