📷 Knitting as creativity and hobby: my first knitwear and tips for novice needlewomen

avatar

Have a nice day! Today I want to publish my first crochet post in this wonderful community. I have been watching skilled and novice craftswomen for a long time and always wanted to learn how to knit beautifully with both crocheting and knitting needles, but someone or something constantly interfered with me :-)

DSC03974.JPG

At first, it was difficult for me even to hold the hook in my hands, it constantly did not obey, then suddenly fell, then just jumped out of my fingers to take a walk... At one time I wanted to give up everything and live the same life as my knitting turned out to be at random :-(

DSC03936.JPG

Then I began to study the history of the issue. I read several books about knitting and learned a lot of interesting things. It turns out knitting is the oldest kind of needlework, although it is impossible to name the exact date of knitting. But it is possible to trace the first mentions of this type of needlework in various sources, as well as the oldest archaeological finds of finished knitted products.

Initially, people started knitting things just on their hands, and only a little later they began to use special devices vaguely resembling modern knitting needles.

True, I haven't tried knitting with them yet, I need to try to make the hook more pliable and obedient now. I bought all sizes from 1 to 9 and started knitting.

DSC03941.JPG

I decided to knit a bag, but it turns out not every yarn goes for bags. This is also a skill - to choose the right yarn and match the color of the threads you like. I knitted this bag from jute, but I didn't like at all how jute behaves in the knitting process. And then no one told me that jute should be bought much later, and it's better to learn to knit on acrylic or wool.

Novice knitters do not recommend buying jute at all, I just suffered with it. Even with a polymer cord, the bag looks ugly. Despite the fact that I was knitting and mastering an interesting pattern called "cones".

DSC03949.JPG

The photo shows perfectly how the jute began to pile and fluff, and when you put something in the bag, it stretches out a lot, and it was quite difficult for me to knit from it.

Later, I knitted such a handbag with this pattern. Today, thanks to the capabilities of the World Wide Web, you can find any pattern you need on the Internet and also learn how to knit a Tunisian crochet or master different techniques.

DSC03952.JPG

I really liked the polymer cord. I bought a lot of different shades and began to fantasize. Although I don't quite understand how men could be engaged in knitting. I just sometimes didn't have the patience to finish a row or tie only one bottom for a bag... My fingers even began to ache from the efforts of working with the hook. It's a good thing that this only lasted the first week.

DSC03931.JPG

Of course, you are aware that the fishing net appeared first of all and it was she who became the first knitting experience for humanity. Naturally, its creation was only a man's occupation. However, gradually men improved their skills and came up with new ways of weaving ropes and threads. Such fishermen began to be considered skilled masters of their craft. Although after some time, women began to learn how to knit garments and even some household items (rugs, mats, blankets).

In Europe, whole artels were created in which experienced knitters created stockings, gloves, collars, cuffs, hats and many other products. A knitted beret also appeared in Scotland for the first time.

I haven't tied the beret yet, but I've already tried the panama hat. By the way, it is quite comfortable in summer.

DSC03985.JPG

By the XVI century, the whole of Europe was knitting. Women were trusted only to spin wool, but not to knit. But in 1612, Parisian knitters declared that "on pain of monetary penalties, they would not accept a single woman to work in the artel."

I just don't understand what kind of man wants to crochet today?

Are there any men in our time who will knit such products themselves?

DSC03956.JPG

After learning to knit a little, I realized that knitting is not just a hobby. Knitting is creativity, flight of fancy, art! And artfully created things at all times were considered not only fashionable and stylish, but also creative and sometimes even exclusive.

Of course, I haven't connected anything extraordinary yet, because I'm just learning. However, my friends are already happy to go shopping not with bags that are constantly torn, but with my bags.

DSC03950.JPG

Of course, they are still far from perfect, but there is already something to look at. Considering that I've only been knitting for a few weeks.

DSC03930.JPG

Today I will show just a few things that I have recently knitted myself. But don't forget that I'm not a professional in this business yet. Just recently, I just started learning how to work with this miniature "magic" hook, which in skillful hands simply creates beauty...

DSC03965.JPG

And I haven't even held the knitting needles in my hands yet. However, soon I think my hands will touch them too :-)

Today I am knitting a bag called "Magnolia".

DSC03967.JPG

Knitting with a polymer cord is much easier than with jute. I really didn't realize it right away, but it's better late than never :-)

DSC03953.JPG

Of course, I will not be able to show you express workshops on knitting sweaters, dresses, cardigans today, but I have already managed to crochet several hats and ladies' bags. Before them, there were still 3 scarves, one plaid and even warm knee socks. However, then my camera was still broken and I didn't take pictures of my products, and today I just gave everything away :-) Now I'm just tying up a gift for my neighbor, I think she will definitely like it.

DSC03963.JPG

And soon I will start learning to knit in a new technique called brumstick (Peruvian knitting). This technique, which uses a hook or any thick knitting needle or even a smooth stick of large cross-section, and possibly an ordinary ruler. Translated from English, the word "broomstick" means – a stick from a broom.

But the patterns will turn out to be very decorative and look great in both thin and very thick yarn.

DSC03994.JPG

And for this handbag, 2 of my friends almost got into a fight, both immediately wanted to take it with them. After all, in our world, if something is given for free, then hardly anyone will refuse.

DSC04002.JPG

That's how I learn to knit. Yes, I have a few tips for you, which may be useful to someone for sure. So to speak

Useful tips from a novice knitter for needlework friends.

  • If you knit something with a thick thread, then you can put a new skein of yarn into operation in the following way: slightly unravel the fibers of the thread so that you get 2 tips. Trim them and shorten one end at the same time. Do the same with the end of the new thread. Now connect and intertwine the ends of the old and new thread, if desired, you can also stitch them with an ordinary needle.
  • If you needed to buy yarn and you can't find the same shade from the right batch, then knit alternately 1 row of old and 1 row of new thread. After a few rows of such knitting, you can continue working with a new yarn. Thus, you will easily be able to mask possible differences in yarn shades.
  • For products connected in the transverse direction, you should not choose too complex patterns, since due to frequent additions and subtractions, rapport shifts are possible, which inevitably leads to an error. This is how it turned out for me (see the photo below)

DSC03999.JPG

  • If you are knitting a product from a very dark or black yarn, then, in order not to strain your eyes, lay a white handkerchief or something very light on your lap.

I wish you all success and that dreams always come true, even if you spend a lot of free and valuable time for us.

We wish you all happiness and good health and, most importantly, Peace on our vast planet Earth!

Hi, honey @monica-ene.
There are a lot of useful drawings in the books, which make it much easier to understand what needs to be done where :-)

In addition, it is there that you will learn about various shades in knitting...

Thank you so much for your attention and interest in my work!
