Weekend-Engagement - Cherishes from Childhood!

If there's one thing that boils my blood is when people say stuff or argue or try to make a case without logic. I think it has been hardwired into the depths of my brain to absolutely rage with fury when people start to disregard logic.

I have always been a logical person. I have always tried to think rationally, explain happenings around me with a logical approach and most importantly - I have always placed my arguments be it to my parents or to friends or to my teachers, in a very logical fashion. I understand there are things sometimes beyond logic, but I am saying it as a general rule.

My fascination with logical reasoning from a very early age is what made me fall in love with "Debating." I have started debating in school teams as early as from grade 3. Yes, this is the one thing I thoroughly enjoyed in my childhood, and value to this day. There are many reasons for it, but there is no doubt in my mind that I'd love to have some of those days back with a microphone in my hand, in front of a full house of audiences and rip through the arguments of the opposition to rest the motion!

I will never forget the pride I saw in my father's eyes the first time we won the inter-school debating championship. It was in fact the first time ever that our school had won the championship. Half of our school had attended the final - the roars were so deafening that I am actually getting goosebumps again thinking of one of my proudest evenings! We partied, celebrated, huffed and puffed for as long as the our bodies and minds would let us. And the ones that were enthusiastic enough to stay back for the celebrations (remember, we were all very young back then and everyone had curfews to get back home), were treated to unlimited ice-cream later that night at the most widely known Ice-cream parlor of the city by my dad!

I think his enthusiasm peaked that day and so did mine, which never subsided! Every time I participated in a debate competition, he was always there no matter what, no matter where! He even left his business unattended a few times to travel to the capital with the team. And after most of our debates, my father would take me out for a burger or a pizza and tell me we did a great job!

We created a belief within the school that if there was a Debate competition being held in the city, our school simply could not lose. And sure enough, for the next 5 years, we never lost a single tournament in the city. Every time we participated our loyal fanbase followed in huge numbers. The entire school uniting as one regardless of the inter house rivalries will remain, to this day, one of my most fond memories from my childhood. The adrenaline rush of that can never be put into words. I think I was quite lucky that I got to experience such gushes of adrenaline pumping through every vessel in my body.

It's not just the memories of debating though. I truly believe the experiences I gathered has shaped me into who I am today. The early experiences of insane nerves has made me calmer in crunch situations as an adult.

Our experiences from childhood plays a very important role in what kind of personalities we develop as we grow up. More so the ones that we most fondly remember and cherish for the rest of our lives.

In my primary days, that was grade 3 we use to do quiz competitions between classes. One day I was chosen to represent my class. I cried with fear I didn't want to be the one to make my class lose. They didn't change me as a contestant. I had to find my way through. I did my best and my class was first in this competition. I had that feeling and I could sense how you felt after that win. You can even forget this moment. It stays with us. It's through some of these moments we begin to realize what we are made of.

Thanks for sharing.

Couldn’t have said it better! We often need to be tested to our limits to actually fund out what our limit is!

I think if I had been in that school, I would also go to see the debate championship @simplifylife 😃 I would have loved to hear how the kids defend logic with their words. And then go eat hamburgers or pizza with my mom 😁

The more the merrier! 😃

Oh I'm sure most people would love to listen to kids arguing it out in a sane, logical manner instead of fighting and breaking each others' stuff 😂

I totally agree with you that our childhood experiences will determine what type of personality we grow up with. Your experiences then are beautiful as I find myself smiling reading your post. I had a flashback on mine too and I can say those moments were priceless and beautiful.

They're precious indeed and most of us would give anything to be able to have one one those days back!

you are very great brother, from childhood you already have extraordinary thoughts, not all young children can think like you. Being able to think logically since childhood is an extraordinary thing.

Debate is really a beautiful thing that is beautiful in the growth process, it doesn't exist here in Italian schools and I think it's a real shame.
