Australian cockroach

The Australian cockroach (Periplaneta australasiae) is a large species of cockroach native to tropical climates but has spread worldwide, especially in warm, humid areas.Around 30–35 mm long. Dark reddish-brown with a distinctive pale yellow margin on the thorax and yellow stripes on the outer edge of the wings. Mostly nocturnal and prefers dark, warm, moist environments. Omnivorous, feeding on decaying organic matter, plants, and even paper products, making it a common household pest. Tends to inhabit areas like kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and greenhouses. Females lay egg capsules, or oothecae, containing about 16–24 eggs each. Clean food sources and reduce moisture.

Seal cracks and crevices where they can enter. Traps and insecticides may be used to control infestations, though professionals are recommended for larger infestations. Despite its name, this species is not native to Australia but was likely named due to its abundance in the region.
