Today we speak of a sacred place!
Hello everyone, in today's post I would like to introduce you to a place that is very sacred to us Italians, because it is located in a place where one of the ugliest wars in Italian history was fought and where unfortunately several young people lost their lives, where in many cases they were forced to abandon their homes to go and fight a war that they did not care about.
Today I am going to tell you about the shrine on the top of the Grappa, a pharaonic architectural work in memory of what happened there.
This architectural complex was built during the Fascist era to glorify the heroic feat of the Italian army in the First World War, and has become one of the largest charnel houses in Europe. In fact, it is not only a place of pilgrimage for those who fought in this war, but also the burial place for many soldiers who in some cases were not recognised by their families.
Just think that this place is at an altitude of about 1700 m above the peak of the Grappa, and more than 23,000 soldiers are buried here, many of whom, as I said, do not have names because nobody recognised them.
As you can see from the photos, every Sunday this place is a place of pilgrimage, especially by those who have belonged to the various military corps such as the most famous one and the Alpine troops, but also by many ordinary people who want to pay their respects here, there have been as many as three Popes I think
As you can also see from the photos, the shrine was built using the dovecote system, and also taking advantage of the slope of the land, it was finished in 1935 and took three years to complete.
I have come several times to this sacred place, it is a very sad place, I must tell you honestly, but from here at least there is a beautiful view, especially when the sky is very clear.
It is important to bring the new generations to this place, to make them understand above all the horrors of war, because in the end no one wants war but everyone wants peace, even these young people who are buried in this place.
I hope you were able to enjoy this post of mine, I wanted this time to introduce you to a very sacred place in Italy, a place that must serve to prevent any possible war.
I thank you for reading it comma and I will see you in the next post.
