"Exploring the Enchanting Village of Vellano: A Journey Through History and Scenic Beauty"
Hello dearest friends,
I hope everything is going well. We're getting closer to the weekend, and I can't wait to share new posts with you. Above all, I hope to discover new places to share here with you, even though my health hasn't fully recovered after the snow. Today, however, I want to share some photos from a very special hike I took with my father.
I don't remember if I had already told you about the village of Vellano, a fraction of the municipality of Pescia in the province of Pistoia. I visited that place a while ago because my dad discovered some relatives living there. He wanted to go and see if he could find anyone he knew. For me, it was an opportunity to discover yet another village in Tuscany. This time, I must admit, it's a really small but very beautiful village.
Vellano is located at about 480 meters above sea level in a valley where the Pescia River flows, known as the Pesciatina Switzerland. There are other beautiful villages to explore in the area. I confess the truth that I would have liked to see them all, but when I'm with my father, I never manage to see anything. Unfortunately, he's not passionate about these artistic things.
I found out that Vellano has very ancient origins and preserves part of the walls and also the castle. By the way, to reach this place, we passed by the Pietra Serena quarry, one of the largest quarries in the province of Pistoia, where the material is used for building construction.
Anyway, I have to say that I was at least fortunate with the weather because, as you can see from the photos I took, it was a really beautiful day, and from that place, you could see a beautiful panorama of the entire valley. There was just a bit of haze that made it a bit difficult to see far.
As usual, I got a bit lost in the alleys of this beautiful village while my father was searching for his ancestors. So, I could see this beautiful place from various perspectives. Below, I'll leave you with some information in case you happen to be near Florence and want to come and explore this place.
To explore this place, the only way to get here is by car. In fact, Florence is about 60 km away, and you can get here by taking the A11 motorway that takes you from Florence to Pescia. Then, continue through a fairly complicated road for about 10 km to reach this beautiful village. Unfortunately, there are no public transport options that reach here, except for the occasional bus from the Pescia station.
In conclusion, I can say that this was also a beautiful experience. I was surprised to find that there are many villages in this area, all concentrated in one valley. Unfortunately, a gentleman who lives here told me that some of these villages are now abandoned. I would really like to one day explore these abandoned places.
Thank you for reading, and especially for the support you give me under each post. I wish you all a beautiful day!
Fantastic, I love to see these streets, it's like walking through them, it fascinates me!!! Thank you!😀

I will keep it very much in mind, but so far these walks are wonderful, I feel walking through those streets, the stones, the old... I love it!
😄
I will show your posts to my mother, as her grandfather was Italian from Ancona.
A beautiful place. Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you get to visit some of those abandoned villages.
Thank you!

Wow, super interesting place to visit. Thanks for sharing ☺️
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it interesting.
That place seems pretty! I wish I could visit there, However your post made me feel like I was actually in that place . The area was truly ancient, especially with the preserved walls and castle in Vellano.
It's sad to hear that some villages are abandoned, But I hope you get the chance to explore those abandoned villages one day.
Unfortunately this is the fate of these places
I thought the complicated roads to the villages only existed in my country. This place looks beautiful and the clock tower is interesting. Is it a crowded village?
