"Exploring Palazzone: A Charming Tuscan Village Tucked Away Near Siena"
Hello dear friends,
Unfortunately, due to my work commitments, I couldn't find the time to post yesterday, but I'm excited to share this charming place with you today. I stumbled upon this discovery almost by chance while I was still in the province of Siena.
I'm talking about a small village located 10 km from San Casciano dei Bagni, which I introduced to you in another post and really enjoyed. So, I took some photos of the streets of this small village, Palazzone.
Palazzone can also be considered a small hamlet, and although I didn't find much information about this place, it is said to have an ancient history. This is likely because the earliest dwellings in this area were built due to the production of the excellent wine known in this part of Tuscany today.
We are still in a hilly area, as you can see from the sign in one of the photos. There aren't many houses in this place, but those that exist are truly beautiful, built entirely of stone, probably restored over the years. During my visit to this small hamlet, I discovered that every year, despite the small size of the place, the customary wine festival takes place—a way for everyone to come together and undoubtedly enjoy a good glass of wine.
If you notice in one of the photos, there is a somewhat unique stone building in the small square called "Piazzetta del Pozzo" because there was and still is the communal well. People could and still can fetch water there. It was normal once to build the residential area around this fundamental element for life.
I didn't see many other interesting things in this small village. I noticed, more than anything, the numerous presence of cats rather than humans. In fact, most of these houses are either second homes or vacation homes, and some can even be rented through Airbnb. I definitely recommend a stop here if you happen to be in the area, although you can comfortably explore this place in half an hour.
For me, discovering these places is always a beautiful emotion, but there's always a bit of a bitter taste because I would like to interact more with the people who live in these places. Unfortunately, especially when I pass by during the week, there is no one around because most of these houses are used mainly on weekends
I thank you for the time you dedicate to reading my posts and appreciate the support I often receive in the comments, especially because my goal is to share what I discover, sometimes for the first time!
Have a great day, everyone!

That first image reminded me a little of older English towns.
If the image brought back those vibes for you, it must have a special and nostalgic appeal. Sometimes, visuals have a magical way of transporting us to different places and times. 😘
Yep! It's the one side of England I did enjoy. The old stone buildings, narrow pathways, lots of green around, usually climbing up the stone walls of houses.
Exploring such places must have felt like stepping into a storybook or a bygone era. Each stone seems to carry tales of the past, making the experience all the more enchanting.
A lot of it is being lost these days as England becomes more Americanised. Those older villages and homes replaced with more modern developments. It's sad. I love those smaller villages and such places. I'm now in Armenia and this is the only time in two months I have felt some sort of connection to what I once thought of as home.
I truly love the stones they use for the houses. It gives the town a beautiful ancient vibe!
It's like walking through the past, and each stone seems to carry a story of its own. The architectural choices in older towns often contribute to a sense of durability and permanence.
