Wednesday Walk: Church Yard Sale

The Stewardship Committee of our parish decided to hold a yard sale as part of fundraising efforts for our new church.

A yard sale (also known as a garage sale, tag sale, moving sale, and by many other names) is an informal event for the sale of used goods by, in this case, our parish. It was held outdoors in the parish school parking lot.

Used furniture of the parish was being sold.

They were sofas, coffee tables, lamps, little chairs, big ones, stable chairs...

They are far from new, but most were still usable.

Like this cane back chair may be used as an accent chair for an empty corner in a home.

Others need repair, or maybe recycled into something else. Such as this church pews.

If one is handy with furniture, a pew may be transformed into something interesting, or restored as extra sitting in a foyer or a library room in a home.

There was artwork too.

There were numerous framed prints.

But they also had many artwork in oil and acrylic.

And lots of other things.

From religious objects...

such as pictures of Our Lord, the Saints, angels...

to other things like mugs, forks, spoons, and knives.

I imagine that the parish was able to raise a couple of thousands of dollars in this activity. Every dollar helps!

Here in Venezuela, garage sales were never held.
However, since 2007, when Venezuelans who were able to escape from Venezuela, before escaping, many made garage sales, now, it became customary, but especially in the time around December, in fact this month of November there are many garage sales.

I really liked the oil and acrylic works of art, I always go to that area in any garage sale, even though I can't buy anything.

They had some cool stuff someone who has a creative memory nd and wood working skill could make something cool out of those pews

All sorts of interesting stuff for sale. Every dollar I'm sure does help, churches aren't always exactly flush with cash. Looks like a nice walk with some great pictures you snapped.

I've seen some really creative things done with church pews in restaurants and things like that. Besides being a pastor, my brother in law also runs a charity store in the next town over. They sell the donations and then use the money to buy food and the food they give away for free. We take all of our unwanted stuff to them now for the store.

I wanted to buy one of the pews. I went home to think about it. After I checked where to put it (in the backyard), I went back the next day and all the pews were already bought. Oh well! !LOL

Awe man, that's too bad! Maybe next time! I wonder what happened to all the old pews at our church. They got rid of them a long time ago and moved to interlocking chairs.

Seems like a wise plan to both recycle these to folks who can use them and provide income for the new church! With the cost of things today, it's expensive to even think of building a new church! I know, for ours is in the process of getting our building underway in early 2025.

God's got this! I'm sure both of our churches will be done in His time and it will be worth the wait!

Such things could also became helpful for the people who really need things at affordable price. Very nice looking.

There is variety, I would buy the blue cup, it looks good, I would have my coffee and even a good chocolate with milk for the cold weather in this country these days.
