US Constitutional Coins, Beautiful & Sublime Sunday

All through the holidays, wires were sticking out of this drawer. They are my wires to chargers for my devices.

Each USB connector on most USB charging stations has a 1A or 2.1A power output. The letter "A" stands for amps, which is how electrical current is measured. When we talk about "1A," "2.1A," and so on, we are talking about the amount of current. The charger that comes with an electrical item is made to only give the exact quantity of current—never more—because different electrical devices have varying current requirements.

Today I had my earbuds charged.

My sectional sofa is a year old. This is my third one in the span of 6 years. It is good for couple of years.

But I'm getting tired of this space.

Caring for air plants is simple. Although I don't have to bother about potting them, they still require the same conditions as other houseplants, including the proper quantity of light and water. When an air plant blooms, it is sure to be receiving its nutrients.

Unlike other plants, air plants only have a few little roots that enable them to cling to whatever surface they are growing on. I have to give my houseplants some water once a week. Certain types don't need to be watered for up to two weeks.

The plants are hanging in my anime collection,
of which I am also so tired.

What I am not tired of is this...
US Constitutional coins!!!

U.S. Constitutional Silver are U.S. coins minted before 1965 in the form of dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars. Following the Constitutional mandate, these coins were minted containing 90% silver. The mandate ended in 1965.


To be more exact, the term Constitutional Silver usually refers to these coins:

  • Mercury dimes
  • Pre-1965 90% silver Roosevelt dimes
  • Standing Liberty quarters
  • Pre-1965 90% silver Washington quarters
  • Walking Liberty half dollars
  • Franklin half dollars
  • 1964 90% silver Kennedy half dollars
  • Morgan dollars
  • Peace dollars

Whenever I can (that is, if I remember to do it), I purchase them, along with my regular silver purchases.

Other silver coins
The composition of nickels changed from 1942 to 1945, when silver was added to its metal content; hence, the four-year period has been referred to as the silver nickel era. Specifically, it consisted of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese.

35% Silver Nickels: 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945

Silver was phased out of U.S. currency by 1965. Half dollars would have 40% silver, quarters and dimes would have none. These 40% silver coins were only made for a short time. Since 1971, they've been out of circulation.

1968 J.F. Kennedy Half Dollar

All of the pre-1965 90% silver that has ever been minted is a finite amount. Unlike a generic round... they're pumping out millions and millions of generic silver rounds to meet demand.

Everything looks so nice and clean. It looks like things stay where you place them. Empty surfaces remain empty until you put something there. For me caring for a half-dozen little people makes keeping living spaces clean a very big challenge, but we manage. Every Friday we restore the house to where it should be... and every Sunday. And Mondays too. Come to think of it, every week day!

Dime values for coins dated 1964 or earlier have the current silver price as their base value. At over $22.90 per ounce, all silver dimes are worth at least $1.53 each ... you can buy half a dozen eggs with that today!

Meanwhile my stack of Canadian 80% silver circulating coins will make a good form of money for Emergency commerce in Canada. The term Constitutional can be applied here but perhaps a more accurate word should be "Confederational" silver.

I love getting US silver coinage. Ours was only 80% after all... but still my core stack is CAD silver dollars. It's so awesome. Back in the day, they decided the CAD silver was 0.6ozt pegged at 80% of the USD at .714ozt. That's how money's supposed to work. Currencies are different but the metal is the same!

I also stack Canadian coinage, especially my favorite Elizabeth II when she was young,,, 1960's. I think Canadian dollars are great!!!

Sometimes, our daily living spaces just really need some different accessories to change things up!

It always tickles me when I find constitutional silver in change I get from the store. Or like once, when I was making change for a customer at the clinic and discovered a silver quarter in the mix!
