Silver Hand Pour: Chariot

A wonderful complement to an expanding silver collection are hand-poured silver rounds and bars. Silver items can be made in a variety of ways. Massive machines are typically used to generate the coins that big mints like the U.S. Mint produce. The machines "punch" big silver bullion strips until the weight of the strips is appropriate for a silver coin or round.

The coin is then struck with the intended pattern on both sides, giving it a smooth, almost flat appearance.

Silver that has been hand-poured is slightly unique. The artisan uses a mold with the chosen size with the obverse face engraved on the mold. Then the molten, liquified silver is hand-poured into the mold. This creates hand-poured silver rounds and bars. The effect is really rustic in appearance.

I only purchased hand-poured silver made by friends in the silver stacking community since I began "collecting" them in 2015. My motivation is to help these friends further their craft and to spread the word about their YouTube channels. This one is from J Pours. I discovered him on Instagram. You can visit his website HERE.

This is beautiful work, do you agree? Not only did the details of the man, horses, chariot, dust, ball came out so clear, this piece was also finished to appear like old silver and toned.

When a surface metal reacts chemically with its surroundings, it takes on a toned appearance.

Did I tell you that I tried toning silver before? I use liver of sulfur to tone my silver, and it worked beautifully.

This Chariot silver round by J Pours is toned with colors that range in a variety of hues, from brilliant blue to deep magenta! It also has some shades of olive, green and gold.

Just lovely!

Beautiful piece. I toned some silver using a hard boiled egg in a Rubbermaid container with the silver on top if my water heater. Kinda worked.

The toning made it look nice, but I suppose if he decided to have it shiny, it would be equally beautiful, @silvertop !

I really can’t decide if I prefer a very shiny hand pour or one with toning @silversaver888 😇
You are so correct both are equally beautiful !😊

Definitely reminds me of Davide Calandra's version on the 1910s Italy 5 Lire Reverse, same neo-classical style but the emphasis in Civil/peaceful emphasis rather than Imperialistic expression. I recall seeing this coin shared in our community, at least twice.

Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

Yes, it is similar to many other designs. It's putting it in your hands that matter.
