Market Friday School Garage Sale
Have you attended a garage sale hosted by a school?
Last Saturday, we (my sorority sisters and I) went to one, and it was my first time. It was held at our neighborhood elementary school. Apparently, the school wanted to raise funds for an out-of-town science trip for sixth graders next year.
The things that the school was selling were the unwanted things that the parents had donated to the school.
There were miscellaneous things for the home, such as furniture, decor, Christmas decor, frames, and lamps...
Serve ware, plates, bowls, glassware, pots & pans, small equipment...
Fancy jewelry, clothes, bags, shoes, hats, scarves...
Books, toys...
We were there for an hour and a half. By the time we left, about a third of the items were gone. And the line to pay for stuff was long!
A garage sale such as this makes it easy for anyone to help. The school will use the funds for particular initiatives and projects, such as the Science Trip, that cannot be covered by the yearly fund or general operating budget funds.

Terrific fundraising idea and great way for students to make money for their field trip. In my opinion it beats selling candy bars, wrapping paper, magazine subscription, et cetera we used to do for such activities...

It's a great idea! We decided to check it out, prior to celebrating my birthday. There are lots of interesting things. Just browsing through the stuff reminds me that there are so many things people buy on impulse. Some of the things were unused!

Today I also went to the Friday market, things are cheap there, but here in Pakistan, all the things that are available are sold on the road because it is a poor country.
Nah... Some things are also sold on the road here... like fruits !

You know, @silvertop, I always said that if you want to raise money for savings while at the same time decluttering, one way to do it is to have a garage sale. And you have it every weekend until most of it is gone! It's been quite a while since I did that. I wasn't on YouTube yet, but I got my inspiration from the stackers.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
