My Secret Santa is the best!!!




My Secret Santa sent me a box of goodies that was thoughtfully packed.

Dear Silver Saver,

Santa has shopped a little for you in Europe for things hard to get where you live.

My Secret Santa enclosed the brochure that came with his gifts! Wow, this is so extensive! It shows how the coins may come and the different sizes available: 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz., 1 oz., 5 oz., 10 oz., 1.000 g., and 5.000 g.. I haven't seen the sizes past 1 oz., nor the 1/2 oz. or 1/4 oz. here in the U.S..



The dealer of the coins had them in soft plactic sleeves that has their logo!

Armenia's Noah's Ark coin program is one of the most recent silver bullion coin in the world. This program's silver coins were first released in 2011 on behalf of the tiny nation in Western Asia by Geiger Edelmetalle.

I think I know who my Secret Santa is, although I am not so sure. I think I know, should I say his name? He hasn't visited my blog (or rather, he has not left a comment for a while). But he sure knows what to get for me.

My Secret Santa is a friend from the YouTube days. @goldrooster stack mostly gold coins. And he just bought a house in Spain!

Every year, we have this Secret Santa, and it's been going on for five years now.

If it weren't for Hive, we'd probably slogging it out on YouTube earning peanut coin and participating in the Giveaways, which wasn't all bad. We win a few! Great memories. I still listen in on a few YouTubers.

The Armenian Ark coins are interesting if you look for smaller sizes at a decent price. There are several other silver coins that come also in smaller sizes than 1 oz, but usually the price per gram sky rockets the smaller they are. It comes from the minting cost and the dealers margin.
I found that the Ark coins had the best value in that respect. So especially for preppers that is a interesting coin group, if you intend to use it for bartering and look for smaller pieces than 1oz.

Up until I opened my Secret Santa gift, I didn't know that they were available in larger and smaller sizes than 1 oz. silver coins. Yeah, the premiums are higher for the smaller coins. The Noah's Ark 1-oz. coins are available here in the U.S. at competitive average prices.

Well, with silver this intrinsic value/price tag ratio is especially bad. If a 1oz coin costs around $30, a half oz should be $15 and a quarter oz $7.50 - but they cost basically all the same to mint, and the dealers dont want to do the work for $0.50 a piece or so. Thats why you dont see the small coins very often, although they do exist. The Mexicans make them, the British also, and I assume some others do, too.
The situation is very much different with gold coins, though, because there the ratio of material value and minting cost is totally different. Yes, also gold coins are more expensive per gram, the smaller they are. But in a much different ratio. And there is more demand for smaller coins, because not everybody can afford to spend $1800 for a whole 1oz coin. I have seen 5g and 10g coins, and even tiny little 1g pieces.
But in Germany all this is also connected to certain tax regulations that we have here. Like, gold is tax free, silver is not. And silver coins (legal tender) are taxed lower than silver rounds or bars. All that plays into the decision making when we buy bullion here.
