Do you want to collect Silver Coins? Part 3

(Edited)

What are the best silver coins to collect is the primary concern of the majority of new collectors. Which silver coins would make the best addition to a collection or investment portfolio?

The phrase "silver coin" can only refer to coins made of silver, that are round, and backed by a government.

There are plenty of government mints producing and dispersing silver coins. The government mints of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Austria, the Perth Mint, and the Central Mint of China are all popular choices.

Focusing on American coins, here is a list of six My Best Silver Coins.

Mercury Silver Dimes

Coin enthusiasts adore the Mercury silver dimes, which were produced from 1916 to 1945. The image on these silver coins depicts Miss Liberty with a wing-cap. Even though many people believed the depiction of Miss Liberty more closely resembled the Roman god Mercury, Adolph A. Weinman's Mercury silver dimes are officially known as Winged Liberty dimes. The moniker endured. They are 90% silver.

Washington Quarters

Washington quarters have long been at the top of the list of collectors' preferred coins, maybe because they play a significant role in trade and present many fantastic opportunities for collectors to assemble unique sets. The widely circulated, highly valuable 90% silver Washington quarters were produced from 1932 until 1964.

Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars

The Walking Liberty half dollar, which was produced from 1916 to 1947, is one of the most exquisite silver coins ever made. Adolph A. Weinman's original design was later reissued on the American Silver Eagle starting in 1986. The Walking Liberty half dollars are among the best silver. coins because they give collectors access to a variety of common and rare dates at prices that are accessible to all collectors. Even though a full collection of Walking Liberty half dollars is pricey, it is affordable for collectors who don't mind making incremental progress toward assembling a full set over time.

Morgan Dollars

The Morgan dollar produced from 1878 to 1921, is probably the most well-known of all traditional U.S. coins. This 19th and early 20th centuries heavy silver currency was frequently used in the western states and territories. It is linked to Old West romantic mythology as well. The Morgan dollar were common with millions of living survivors today. However, some dates are relatively uncommon, especially those from the Carson City Mint, which functioned in the late 19th century and was situated close to productive silver mines in Nevada.
It costs a lot of money and effort to create a whole set of Morgan dollars. Even wealthy collectors may frequently spend several years building a Morgan dollar collection.
However, even just one Morgan dollar can add to the charm and value of your coin collection by adding a little bit of history from the old days.

Peace Dollars

The Peace dollar is a great addition to any coin collection, even though Morgan dollars might be the most well-known silver dollars. Beautiful coins known as peace silver dollars feature a youthful Miss Liberty wearing a crown of rays, closely like the Statue of Liberty in New York. Peace dollars were produced for a relatively brief period of time, from 1921 through 1935, as opposed to the long-running Morgan dollar. Because of this, a collector needs to purchase fewer coins to finish a set.
There are still some uncommon dates to be found among these cherished silver dollars, even if the Peace dollar requires fewer coins to complete a collection.

You should be aware of two types of silver dollars from 1921: 1921 Peace silver dollars are quite uncommon compared to 1921 Morgan silver dollars, which are more prevalent.

The American Silver Eagles

American Silver Eagles are among the best silver coins for both investing and collecting. They are perfect for individuals establishing portfolios of precious metals. They are frequently gathered by date as well. In other words, American Silver Eagles present exceptional prospects for both investors and collectors to cross over. Since 1986, the US Mint has started producing these 99.9% pure silver coins.

Many American Silver Eagle coins are common, while some are quite rare.

-The 1995-W proof American Silver Eagle saw a mintage of just 30,125 pieces and sells for more than $3,000.
-Another scarce date is the 2019-S enhanced reverse proof American Silver Eagle — even rarer with only 30,000 struck.
-Even a basic set of bullion-quality American Silver Eagles entails better dates (such as the 1996) the regular-issue series key that saw only 3,603,386 examples made.
-Other dates (such as the first-year 1986 and the 1994 American Silver Eagles) enjoy premiums, while the 2008-W Burnished Reverse of 2007 is a huge variety that fetches around $500.

Hi @dswigle !
I say the Walkers and ASE. I think that it is Weinman's design that I love most. I also love Saint Gauden's Liberty design (in gold). To me, it has patriotism written all over the coins!

So many awesome coins to choose from @silversaver888!🤗
Liz loves the mercury dimes, she has a beautiful, matching set of earrings!🥰
For me, walking liberty half dollars run a close second, with the Morgan my favorite, and also my very first silver coin in my collection !😊
You probably remember how Silvertop as a small child, bought a Morgan dollar in a plastic paper weight for one dollar ……
I took it home and with a hammer and a screwdriver chiseled it out of the plastic !
I still have that same Morgan dollar to this day !😇🤗

Love this post and the previosu ones as well. They will be added to my curated collection when I put it together.

My eye is rather fond of the Franklin half at the moment. Just started putting together a collection of them. We will see how it goes. My son is working on Peace Dollars.

I said that I'll get myself a pair of Mercury Dimes earrings, but I forgot about it, hehehe! With so many things going on... I'll try to get it... before the month (or year) ends. Hahaha!
I did try to look but they bore a hole through the coin!

Lots of great info! I picked up a standing liberty quarter a few weeks ago. Now that's a nice coin. Shame they changed it to Washington.

Yes, Standing Liberty quarters are beautiful, if you can get them. Stacking them would be a challenge... for me, anyways! What is your best silver coins to stack?

Yeah it would be a challenge. That would be a great collection of coins, though!

The easiest ones for me to get are the 60% 100¥ coins I've shared before, so those are probably my best to stack. But if I had better options here, I'd probably go after silver dimes, Mercury dimes when I had that option.

I have a few Mercury dimes in my collection that I bought as a kid at a swap meet. Back then they were more readily available, and now wish I had been able to get more of these dimes way back when.

Nice article, thanks for sharing.
