1986 Liberty Commemorative Coins Set

Coins honoring and celebrating American landmarks, persons, occasions, and organizations are authorized by Congress. Despite being struck for non-circulating use, these coins are legally tender. Each commemorative coin is made by the US Mint, limited to a single batch, and offered for a brief period of time.

1986 Liberty Commemorative Coins Set

The foundation also intended to use the funds raised from coin sale surcharges to fund these projects.

Certificate of Authenticity

Commemorative coin programs are created by legislation enacted by Congress to honor a person, place, or event. The enabling legislation dictates the coin specifications, mintages, cost considerations, and surcharge amount to be collected. A surcharge is a set amount per coin that the Mint collects and distributes to the designated recipient organization, which must use the proceeds for the purposes specified in the enabling legislation. Historically, the Mint has been required to pay surcharges to recipients, whether or not all of the Mint’s program costs were recovered, and without any accountability requirements for the recipient organization.

I shall show you the Statue of Liberty Gold $5 on separate article.

Very cool! I think that most people in the US take the Statue of Liberty and what it and Ellis Island stand for, for granted. I can imagine what it must have meant to my grandmother-in-law, when she first set foot there and immigrated to the US. She insisted English be spoken in the house even though it wasn't her native tongue and she was most proud of her naturalization certificate. I unfortunately never got the chance to meet her. This is as it was related to me by Mike. She sounds like she was a force to be reconned with!

Thanks for sharing sis! Much love to you!🤗💜😘😍🌸🌹💟😽🤗 !LADY !LUV !PIMP

What a heartwarming story! And rightfully so!!! This country, America, for all its faults of leadership, is a great country, and it belongs to us, its people, as we belong to her. I hate it when I hear people, especially those who aren't Americans, speak poorly of her. Totally uncouth!
!LUV ya much, sis!
