March of Dimes…. No pun intended

Afternoon everyone ….

With everything in the coin world revolving around mintages and grades. Every once in a while a coin falls through the cracks.

What I mean by this is, sometimes an announced mintage doesn’t get met. See in 2015 the United States Mint did a March of Dimes commemorative set. It was a three coin set only originally. Then they announced a deluxe special four coin set. Which would have a West Point struck reverse proof dime in it.

The original mintages were roughly 75,000 and 45,000. Well the set wasn’t very popular and only a little over 5,000 of the three coin set were struck and just over 1,200 of the deluxe set were struck.

So that makes the reverse proof dime very desired by registry set dime collectors. Why? Because it’s a coin they need to fill to complete their sets.

I stumble upon this information about this set during a conversation with a friend. Once I learned of it which was several years ago now. I bought one and had it graded. I managed to get a deep cameo perfect PF70.

What does this mean?

That my $38 investment is now worth nearly $200.

Here is the original US Mint listing for the set.

The set contains:

One 2015 March of Dimes Proof Silver Dollar (W mint mark)
One 2015 reverse proof silver dime – Philadelphia (P mint mark)
One 2015 proof silver dime – West Point (W mint mark)
Certificate of Authenticity with information about the March of Dimes
For the first time, the United States Mint will issue both a reverse proof silver dime from the United States Mint at Philadelphia and a proof silver dime from the United States Mint at West Point. These coins are only available in this special silver coin set commemorating the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes.

All coins are encased in a plush black clamshell case with silver trim.

Orders will be limited to five units per household. The bureau will re–evaluate the order limit over the period this set is available for sale. Production of this set is limited to 75,000 units.

That's a very cool set! You did very well with that investment, and how nice to get a PR 70 Ultra Cameo. That is awesome!

The designs of the old coins are quite good and their prices are also going well in the market.

Oh wow, that's really sweet flipping 38 to 200, that is if you'd sell.

I’m definitely considering it. It doesn’t really fit into my collection.
