Made my daughter a Birthday present…..Can you guess what it is?

Afternoon everyone …..

As all of you have to know by now yesterday was my birthday. Well that’s not the only birthday celebration this week.

Tomorrow the 12th of May is my daughters birthday. She’s had a rough year so far, so I wanted to make her something special for her. In late March my daughter had to have her thyroid taken out after months of unsuccessful treatment with medication.

While the doctor was in there, they saw a pair of areas that concerned them. They ended up doing a biopsy on both spots. When my daughter say her doctor a week later for a follow up, she found out that the two spots were cancer.

Needless to say that’s the last thing you want to hear about your daughter who’s turning 25 tomorrow. She has to wait another six weeks before they can start the treatment because of the swelling from the surgery.

She has just gone back to this week part time at the hospital. During her time off she was doing puzzles like crazy. Growing up she was always good at puzzles, and now does 1,000 piece puzzles in a day or two depending on how much time she spends on them.

So I decided to make her a handmade puzzle board with roll out drawer for the pieces. The challenge of this is to make it sturdy but also light enough to carry around as well. While also being large enough to handle her 1,000 piece puzzles.

The puzzle board is made of solid half inch thick oak, with a half inch solid maple drawer. The length of the top is 34”, the width is 28” and it stands 4” tall. The actual puzzle board insert measures 30 1/2” long and 25” wide leaving enough room for her puzzles.

Here is the final product. What do you think?

Wow, I love that drawer, the puzzle pieces will never get out of place, and it also has a drawer to store the remaining pieces, it's the best, congratulations @silverd510 for such an excellent job.

A cool idea, I work with patients that spend hours on puzzles. Space sometimes get scare when more than a few 500 piece jigsaw projects get started.

That's pretty cool. I used to do puzzles as a kid. That sure looks handy too keep from continuously picking pieces off the floor
