A superior Kraken….

Afternoon everyone ….

I don’t know about you, aside from just adding weight in generic bar or round form. I like to add cool looking rounds to my stack to keep things interesting.

To me there are way too many never ending series of coins out there. The Perth Mint has many the Kookaburra series has been going for over 30 years now. The koala series nearly 20 years, and they are on their third round of Lunar coins. Others that have less length but are still ongoing the swan, wedged tail eagle, the Emu and I’m sure I’m missing some.

While most of them are really well done. I’ve gotten bored with never ending series. Give me a five, eight, ten or even twelve coin series that’s well done and I’m in.

That’s why I’ve stopped all of my never ending series collecting. It’s just too much. I even stopped my favorite series which was the Somalia elephant coins because of this.

I’ll stop my rant now….

As I was saying, adding cool pieces to the stack is a way to keep things interesting.

There are all different mints out there to buy from. But some take things to a while other level. The first name that comes to my mind and is the most recognizable is the Scottsdale Mint. They do everything well in my opinion, unique bars, stacker rounds, coins and more. The second name that I consider a smaller scale of them is the Intaglio Mint. They produce coins, rounds and bars, but the creativity, design and execution of them is what makes them so great.

Here is a comparison….

In my last order from the Intaglio Mint, I grabbed this Kraken round. Why? Because it’s a great design and is done well.

Take a look….

Now that’s a great design….

While other mints have made Kraken coins or rounds, they are far from the mark in my opinion.

Here is a failed attempt at a Kraken coin by the Canadian Mint.

Not only is it a bad design but a true waste of two ounces of silver in my opinion.

Here is another attempt at a Kraken by the Anonymous Mint. It’s a round not a coin.

REALLY….. this looks like a third grader designed it.

I’m a firm believer that if you are going to do something, put everything you have into it. Neither of these two designs in my opinion fit that bill.

Those last two pictures were grabbed from eBay listings because I do not own either. Thank god!!!!

Rather than the Canadian Kraken, I ended up getting the Canadian Werewolf that worked out cheaper after all.

I like the Werewolf, I'm still wondering what's the next coin. Any interest in the Smilodon Sabre tooth coin? $76 CAD today.
