Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Keep Your Distance. In this ruleset, melee units can't be used. This means there's only options between units with magic, range or no attack.

My Strategy & Tips For Keep Your Distance

There's a few different tips and strategies for this ruleset. Firstly, you have to decide whether or not you will be more magic heavy units or ranged heavy units. It's also good to pick units that have magic reflect or return fire as you know the opponent will have to pick a mage or ranged unit.

This is where almo comes in. Almo is super good in higher leagues in keep your distance since he has immune, phase, return fire and even magic reflect at max level. The strategy for Almo is to utilize his speed to help dodge and mitigate as much damage as it can before getting taken down. Since you want to utilize his speed, you want to get units that can slow enemy or speed your own team up.

Another strategy you can do is Grandmaster Rathe with pelacor conjurer and some backline units like adelade to revive and renova to heal with triage. This would be a pretty decent play provide earth element wasn't available since immortalis counters hard.

Another lineup would be with Immortalis. Immortalis has good support with healers and triage. You could have failed summoner infront with support like goblin psychic with silence and mycellic slipspawn with its taunt. Queen Mycelia for the triage and armor.

These are just some idea for lineups that you can try but there really are a lot which you can experience from playing and trying out yourself to see which works in what rule limits.

It really depends on what element is available. Some other good tanks you can see in this ruleset are failed summoner, pelacor conjurer, void dragon, baakjira etc. Anything that is tanky with void or some sort of reflect is usually a good frontline.

As for summoners, the best choices are the ones that can make some sort of impact to the range, magic or speed whether it be buffing debuffing or reflecting. So some examples of this are Yodin, Immortalis, Quix, Thaddius, Obisdian etc.

The Battle

I played this battle on my account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in Modern gold league ghost card tournament. This means that my opponent and I had access to every card for this format. The ruleset for this battle was Silenced Summoners, Healed out and Keep Your Distance. It was a 35 mana battle with Death and Dragon element banned.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Pyre - I chose Pyre in this matchup since it was silenced summoners. You want to use the lowest mana summoner you can for the element you want to play when there is silenced summoners.

First Position, Almo Cambino - I chose Almo Cambino to be my main tank in this situation. You can see here he's a beast tank with 6 speed and 15 health. The main purpose is to tank and dodge magic damage while reflecting ranged damage.

Second Position, Scavo Chemist - I chose Scavo Chemist for the debuff of the slow. It's also an alright secondary tank but it's main purpose was for the slow since cleanse is no use on Almo since Almo has immune.

Third Position, Supply Runner - The main purpose of Supply Runner was to speed up my team so I can attack first.

Fourth Position, Gem Meteor - The purpose of this card was to be able to hit some low hp backline targets with the scattershot ability.

Fifth Position, Countess Sinash - The purpose of this card was to give speed and aim down low health targets.

Last Position, Dr Blight - Dr Blight was my finisher for this battle. He's a beast as the last guy to take home the win.

Analysis of The Battle

I dominated this battle. The speed advantage was too big that my opponent wasn't able to even get through my Almo Cambino. I think this is what got me to win. I was also able to clear low health enemy unit targets which made it harder for my opponent. My opponent didn't have any units that could hit my backline therefore they had a near to zero chance of winning. I think my strategy here was a good choice with the almo and speed strategy.

Do I Like Keep Your Distance?

Keep your distance is actually interesting to play since you have to play without melee units. It makes the gameplay more diverse so based on this I do like keep your distance. This is one of the rulesets that I enjoy playing and guessing whether the opponent will go for more range or for more magic units. Based on what I guess, I will play a strategy to counter it.

Almo at first position with Immune and return fire is good choice. But the opponent used the magic more. Opponent's strategy does not work and you have performed well.
How yiu calculated the win rate (shown in screenshot)?
