Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Fog of War. In this ruleset, all units lose opportunity, sneak and snipe! Something important to note is that scattershot will still work because it's random! I will be sharing some tips for this ruleset as well as sharing a battle featuring this ruleset.

My Strategy & Tips For Fog of War Ruleset

In this ruleset, there's two main strategies to go with. The first is to just focus on having a strong tank at the front and healing, cleansing, armor repairing, resurrect, debuff units along in the back to support that tank along with some DPS units. For example, you can choose to play Kelya with Legionnaire Alvar, River Hellondale, Merdaali Guardian, Djinn Oshannus, Nerissa Tridawn and Angelic Mandarin. Basically here the purpose is to just keep the frontline alive with support and to just whittle your opponent down. Another team comp that would counter this is an Immortalis lineup since it would just shred through the armor. In a matter fact, this is my go to summoner for Fog of War since that void it gives to whole team protects it from any scattered magic damage and with Queen Mycelia to set up armor it would protect against range scattershot as well.

The second strategy would be to counter this front-line and support strategy by using creatures with scattershot. Just to name a few would be like Chaos Dragon, Acid Shooter and Gem Meteor. You can also play a summoner like Jacek which give scattershot to the whole team. Basically the purpose of this counterplay is to have the scattershot creatures reek havoc on the weak backline support characters which sometimes the opponent might not expect.

The Battle

I played this battle on my account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in brawls and it is in fray 12 which is Wild Diamond. The ruleset for this battle was Fog Of War, Aimless and Up to Eleven. It was a 38 mana cap battle with only the fire and earth element available.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Immortalis - I chose Immortalis because this is probably the best summoner in this ruleset. There was aimless so it was ideal to be able to protect against scattered magic damage.

First Position, Mycelic Infantry - I chose Mycelic Infantry to be the front line tank. This is a super great tank to pair with Immportalis because it's able to reduce all types of attack in half thanks to the shield ability it already has and the void ability that Immortalis gives it.

Second Position, Queen Mycelia - I chose Queen Mycelia for giving armor to the whole team as well as applying rust and triage to heal my backline from any damage taken by the scattershot.

Third Position, Goblin Psychic - The main purpose of this card was to heal my frontline. It also had the chance to be useful in stopping my opponent from healing his frontline.

Fourth Position, Dr Blight - The purpose of this card was to apply poison. There was a chance that the opponent would mirror Immortali so this poison could still deal damage even though Dr Blight would do almost no damge due to the void. It also could come out as late game tank with all the health in gained from scavenge.

Fifth Position, Acid Shooter - The main purpose for Acid Shooter was to add ranged damage to my team. Since there was a high chance, they would mirror Immortalis I needed to have some ranged damage and even that extra poison could come in useful.

Last Position, Mycelic Slipspawn - Mycelic Slipsawn would be my main tank in most cases with the taunt but since it has aimless it didn't really matter. The main purpose in this battle was to slow and do damage because it has good health and good damage for it's mana which helped fill the mana cap.

Analysis of The Battle

If you watched the battle, I dominated this battle. I think the opponent made a mistake of trying to use Legionnaire Alvar instead of Mycelic Infantry. It made the difference because his tank died instantly which let me steamroll his own team. My opponent should have expected the mirror match and the shatter just made his Legionnaire Alvar useless. I also think he shouldn't have used that legendary gladius, Jini Guise because Queen Mycelia would be able to remove the armor and with the extra triage ability it would just be the better choice.

Do I Like Fog of War Ruleset?

I kind of don't like this ruleset lol because to be honest I love to spam Opportunity and sneak lineup so played this is kind of against what I like to play. In any case, if I do play this ruleset most of the time I will just be spamming Immortalis.
